right, so when Star Trek is hammering you w/ its super woke socialist/progressive politics it’s not propaganda, but when Dr. Who has a few woke one-off side characters, that is propaganda being shoved down your neck? your brilliance shines brighter than ever.

Wokeism is a major reason why Star Trek: Discovery tanked. It did incredible damage to the brand. It also greatly harmed Picard in the second season. Even the showrunners recognized that, and dialed it back immensely for the final season.

The show has always been devoted to a more culturally progressive vision of the future, but perhaps that's precisely why it is better suited to delineate toxic contemporary wokeism from the more liberal visions by artists of yore like Roddenberry. Trekkies don't want Mary Sue DEI action stars. They don't want forced She-nghis Khan hyperfeminist yarns and nonsensical racial casting (Spock's black adopted sister!) intruding on a well-established narrative universe. It's not like Trekkies mind strong black or female characters. Just look at DS9's Captain Sisko. Total Chad.

But it's easy to tell the difference between a character written to feel like a real person, and a political diatribe masquerading as a fictional personality we're expected to care about. It's obnoxious af. It's why Discovery quickly soured from an apparent money machine to an albatross, and it's why all hopes are tied to Strange New Worlds, now.

I tried watching Star Trek Discovery but they went a little too ham on the DEI stuff.

Trying to make this fattie some girlboss co-captain of the ship.

And half the crew are trans, non-binary or gay. That's not realistic. It seems whenever they go ham on DEI, it also goes hand in hand with really shitty writing for some reason.
