Movsar Evloev is a very good wrestler and grappler. He also has a very different style. Maybe it's the Greco influence. He has great takedowns and always ends up on top in scrambles.
He is probably a slightly better wrestler than Islam relative to their divisions but I think Islam's overall submission grappling game and especially the actual submissions are much much higher level. Islam has a Sambo, Judo and wrestling base and has also been training with a lot of American wrestlers and BJJ guys. I would say Islam's overall grappling and ability to finish submissions puts him over Evloev.
Exactly this.
Movsar is the better wrestler and Islam is the better submission grappler. They have completely different MMA styles overall, despite both having a grappling first skill set.
Aljo vs Evloev was a joy to watch and razor thin. Really a credit to how high quality both guys are, and how physical Aljo still is moving up a division.
Its an absolute bummer we never got to see Islam x Arman rematch.
