Movsar Evloev is a very good wrestler and grappler. He also has a very different style. Maybe it's the Greco influence. He has great takedowns and always ends up on top in scrambles.

He is probably a slightly better wrestler than Islam relative to their divisions but I think Islam's overall submission grappling game and especially the actual submissions are much much higher level. Islam has a Sambo, Judo and wrestling base and has also been training with a lot of American wrestlers and BJJ guys. I would say Islam's overall grappling and ability to finish submissions puts him over Evloev.

i don't know about finishing Volk, but i think he's going to be more problematic to get off than Islam was. it's also not like his entire career has been decisions. before he came to UFC he was a finishing machine. i get the feeling he's adapted this backpack style to fight more safely in the UFC. the fact he hasn't finished anyone to me is less about his inability to finish and more about his style being about winning on points. i think Volk is going to force that dog out of him and we'll see if he can hold up.

He's been unable to submit anyone in the UFC in 9 fights despite fighting some supbar grapplers, and yet he's gonna submit Volk??

This fight is gonna be a walk in the park for Volk, it's nice that he gets an easy match up for once.

He didn't nullify Islam's wrestling though. Islam took him down in all of the first 4 rounds, had nearly 8 minutes of control time and he needed the bell ring to get Islam off his back in 2 of those rounds.

Their wrestling is probably pretty close, Islam has better subs and Evloev might have better scrambles. Islam seems fine giving up on TDs and striking if his opponent defends, Evloev doesn't have that level of striking so he keeps wrestling.

Objectively speaking, Evloev is more relentless in the pursuit of takedowns, but doesn't have the control to cause any significant damage or attempt any submissions. Volk may hurt him.
