If you have seen ETERNALS, how would you rate it?

They've already introduced the Kree, so it would've made more sense for them to correct the disaster that the Inhumans show was instead of moving on to the Eternals, imo.
I had hoped/assumed that they were going to do something really major and different for the Eternals---make them sort of the progenitors of all the super powered beings on Earth or something...

I think it was always going to be a challenge to balance/differentiate some of these different groups--but I think the bigger challenge would be The Inhumans and the X-men.
As another thread has questioned, my bigger concern is the overlap with Galactus. Because of this movie, I don't see how you can do a movie with Galactus without him being a Celestial, or wildly different from what we know him as in the comics.

I honestly don't know how they're supposed to bring in the rest of the characters in to the MCU. Everyone jsut comes in through the multiverse? I thought the Eternals would have had SOME sort of role to play, but doesn't seem to be the case.

Just the mere fact that they let Thanos (who is an Eternal himself in comics) do what he did flies in the face of "Their Mission". I can assume why they might not have been snapped, but again, it doesn't fit the narrative.

If they had followed the original run in the comics, then bringing in the X-Men would be super easy............
"For Earth, the Celestials created the Eternals and Deviants, and inserted a latent gene into baseline humanity that causes mutations." Technically, all super powered humans on earth are already mutants. Since Fox owned the word Mutant at the time, that's how we got stuck with KMart Mutants in the form of the InHumans.

So this movie did something that altered the landscape of MCU Earth while doing absolutely nothing for the MCU's new phase.

I haven't seen it yet, waiting for home release, as I am not a fan of the franchise to begin with.

The end credits scene was literally the best part of Venom. Mediocre at best. 5/10 if I'm being generous.

I had high hopes for Eternals, I've avoided most previews and any spoilers for it. Sad to hear that it's awful. Shang-Chi was very good, and I've enjoyed everything else they've done so far for Phase 4.

Very true. The movie contradicted itself throughout.
Druig went his own way and was "helping" people, so why didn't he help against Thanos?
And they were released by Ajak, so they were free to do whatever they wanted, so why didn't anyone help at that point?
And as you said, Thanos is also an Eternal, so.,.yea...makes no sense all around.

Yep, if they stuck to the comics bringing in the X-men would have been easy and would have fit in well with what is happening. (It still begs the question of why these super powered people didn't help before though)

In the more recent comics, they say that a Celestial died of disease on Earth billions of years ago, and his remains and body fluids getting into the Earth are what made super powered beings on Earth possible...I thought that's where they were originally going to go with this movie, but yea....

@Dragonlordxxxxx I like the theory that Eternals validates that Thanos was right. Earth could not be harvested until human life was full enough so that means the more intelligent terrestrial beings on a given planet the more Celestials are ready to be created.

Watched The Eternals today.

OMG Chloe Zhao hit it out of the park!
Salma and Angelina were so fierce and amazing!

/sarcasm.

First off, anybody who has read comics over the last 20-40 years knows the Eternals is a weak hero franchise.
They never meshed well with other hero arcs. Outside of Neil Gaiman's Eternals, I don't think there has ever been a compelling Eternals storyline. Ever.
But Marvel chose this franchise, and they're on fire, so... expectations are high (within reason).
Then they cast Salma, Angela Jolie, and the Starks of Winterfell and I cringed, especially at Jolie and Salma. So out of place.
Then the rest of the cast was a bunch of unknowns and a c-list comedian who tried to go full Ryan Reynolds jacked (good for him, tbh).
I couldn't imagine how they were going to make these guys work within the MCU, in my mind it felt like they were setting this franchise up to be the BIG franchise of this stage.
I was hoping they were going to just make the Gaiman plot into a movie; instead they incorporated part of that plot in a very ineffective and emotionally flat way.

Still disappointing. When you consider Gaiman's story, Druig's character in the movie (he's darker in the comics), and the actual twist in the movie... they really missed a great opportunity to explore some real tension before a wow moment. Instead it felt weak. Salma and Jolie were embarrassingly miscast. Seriously, just why? The throwaway Deviant evolution was just stupid; as was their generic monster designs and reimagined origins (same for the Eternals themselves, their reimagined origin was also weak - they didn't have to do that to make the so fucking weak plot work). And the Celestial design sucked, too, imo. Should have stayed og design which was already depicted. Black Knight was also a weird character to shoe horn in. And I always hated Eros in the comics, why give a pop singer a slot in the MCU? The random soundtrack was wasted, too.

What was good was Druig (should have been darker, but that kid is great), Maakani - best speedster live action fight in the movies to date. Is she deaf irl? She has a great presense. Sersei is a babe and I liked her character. Phastos was also a good character, probably the most fleshed out along w/ Druig.

I was wondering if they were going to kill off Salma and Jolie, hoping against the odds that they would - I just don't see them in these roles/ movies. Pleasantly surprised they killed Samla, don't know why they didn't finish off Jolie if they were going that route. Is Ikaris' suicide gonna take? Could have been a little done better if so.

Yeah Druig and Maakani were the best part of the Movie as those two actually had chemistry when they shared smiles , yes Lauren Ridloff is deaf in real life one of the lone bright spots on a long since stale final seasons of the Walking Dead. Even in the press she and Druig's actor (Barry Keoghan) share warm moments that justify their pairing , Zhao actually paired them up after noticing the attraction.

If Icarus is still around , which I assume he , it sets up a bigger redemption arc or if he is a so so antagonist in the MCU he poses one of the few known physical threats to say Captain Marvel ( Who I hate ) , but I doubt they kill him off , kill him off this early.

Has there been a Marvel film in Phase 4 that did make money?

To be fair these would have made more if theaters weren't on the rebound from the Pandemic and also Marvel pissed off the Middle Kingdom and they missed out on the Massive Chinese Movie viewers

I just finished watching it. I thought it was good. It had a good balance of humor and action and drama and the storyline was interesting. I didn’t know what was going to happen next.

I liked the new characters and there were many good scenes of them interacting with each other.

Also, the ending was interesting. I get the feeling Kit Harrington’s character will play a bigger part in the next movie!

Overall, 8/10. It was better than I expected.

Ridloff was great in the film. Her charisma and performance were on point. And the effects for Makkari were awesome.
Druig was really solid too. I wondered where I knew that actor from. Took me looking him up to realize he was the kid who is with Mark Rylance and his son as part of the civilian rescue crew going to help stranded soldiers in Dunkirk.

I'm not going to lie, I actually quite enjoyed this movie. I gave it a 7 but I feel as though I could bump that up a half point at least and be fine with it. There were some real drawbacks but I am a sucker for comic book stable movies. And I actually thought some of the team coordination action scenes were good.

I really enjoyed the action setpiece in the Amazon for instance.
And I thought when Ridloff was going ham in the attack on Ikaris- that was awesome. That whole sequence really. One thing I liked about it was Kumail made that point that even if he contributed, they'd be no match for Ikaris but, in reality, they were more than holding their own when it was Makkari, Phastos and Thena against him.

Most of the cast did a solid job in my view.

I don't know why this movie is getting hammered , I enjoyed it well enough.

I don’t get it either. I can think of about half a dozen MCU movies I’d rank below it.

I like immortals battling lol. Maybe that’s why I find the original Highlander so cool. Well that and Queen of course.

I thought the film has a nice epic scale to it too. I find it weird when movies with end-of-the-world type stakes seem so insular. Wonder Woman 1984 among many other problems felt like that for me. It’s dealing with an extinction level event but the entire movie is almost exclusively focused on four characters so you’ve immediately made it seem small-scale despite the implications.

Yeah it felt like a personal struggle because of Icarus' betrayal, but literally a Planet Sized Giant with the power to create Solar Systems was playing second fiddle to the family conflict.
