News ESPN offered Helwani a pay cut during contract negotiations

Yeah, he's rubbed a lot of people the wrong way over the years, seems like most people don't like him
But what's the flip side? Ariel used to ask Dana the tough questions. He did NOT kiss his ass.. When you were interviewed by Ariel he is NOT tossing you softballs.. Softball interviews that's all we get from Dana anymore. Laura Sanko or Brett Okamoto sit down like UFC Shills, with what is I promise you a prepared list of questions by the UFC...

Love or hate Ariel he did his job as a reporter.. Not as a shill..

TSN pays that bum Robin Black lol but they probably pay him pennies compared to what Helwani makes.

Black probably has to pay tsn and bring in his own coffee.

I was thinking yesterday that Canadian MMA "commentators and analysts " are the ugliest humans in broadcasting:

And Im trying to find a picture of Mauro from last night with his slicked back long hair and baked bean teeth but thankfully i couldnt..

Well if he has something better in the pipeline salary wise good for him..

But if he does NOT, making around 475 Grand to talk MMA for a living..

Sounds pretty sweet Ariel..

He could probably make that on his own

Id be blown away if Fox paid him more. No way in hell TSN would. He's not good enough for NBC, CBS and by extension not good enough for NHL, MLB, NFL or NBA.

Showtime?

FOX got the bread and they're not really paying anyone other than Skip and Shannon.
I don't think their sports shows are brining in huge numbers other than Undisputed

Why not? Give Hawani a co-host and maybe give him a shot at doing sports as a whole. He seems pretty knowledgeable on basketball

If he's managing to get more than $475K a year to talk about MMA for a living good for him.

If he was just being prideful, stupid move.
That's my take. I hope he has better offers on the table.. If NOT he should have signed on for 2 or 3 more years, then taken another look around at his options when the deal expired..

Because i cant see them offering more than ESPN for him. He is not really that good with basketball and he doesnt have a large social media following. Id be shocked if they did pay him.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings on him, he's a good interviewer in many ways, but I think the primary knock against him is his entire interest in MMA revolves around cheap drama, he's a pro wrestling guy, he doesn't care about actual fighting whatsoever, and his "tough questions" always reflected that

Yeah, pay cut or not, being attached to ESPN for a long time still carries a lot of prestige. They were also letting him branch out into NBA coverage, which is something that he really wanted to do.

Honestly, I've criticized Ariel in the past, but he was the only guy at ESPN who wasn't a total UFC shill. I find it bizarre that anybody has sided with Dana and his attempts to completely neuter and pacify the MMA media in order to avoid scrutiny.

I don't know if he wants to just focus on the podcasting since that is so profitable these days..

But leaving the MMA Hub in ESPN is NOT good for his MMA Rep as a reporter.. But we will see where he lands?

He says he will let others know where he is going and that its a good move.....I know in the past, he said, he thought of doing Pro Wrestling which I though was odd. I was thinking boxing but fake wrestling?

Wow, Ariel has balls

betting on himself in a big way, crazy he didn’t take that

What the fuck bro, put a content warning on that

Aerial must have something definitive as plan B cause turning down 475 in a sport where I dont know where it's going is crazy..... swallow the principle of " pay cut " and hes a one sport guy. He pulls in assets in other ways. Hes canadian so I'm going to go out on limb and say he has some NHL acumen in his toolbox. He can crossover and do other things for ESPN.

Hes a smart guy so I'm assuming he knows what hes doing.

Dear ESPN- I'll move to Bristol, Connecticut and be on call 24/7 for 150 ( with some agreed freedoms) . I'll also interview Quinton Jackson and I'll sack up if he gets frisky with me.

ESPN is hurting. They went "woke" and the financial impact has been real. They must have done a shit job with this ESPN+ crap. If it had worked out, they could have paid.

If Ariel doesn't have a better gig lined up, then he is a brave man for cutting loose $475K a year.

He was totally a shill until Dana dumped his ass, he carried their water for years. Fuck him and his crying ass.

Nice try but no one is interested in your porn collection
dude .....you are skating on very very thin yellow ice.

My honest respectful advice is STFU and try to be a valuable contributing member of this forum, if you can.
Your attitude is doing you no favors whatsoever.

He's not worth 50K. Anyone could get off their couch and do a better job.

I dont think so, there are youtubers that make more, and Ariel did a good job building their channel. His pay should be increasing.....
