Crime Enormous amount of fraud, waste and abuse in medicare medicaid

Lolwut? There are 0 people in federal prison for smoking a joint for medicinal purposes, and under no circumstances are there "billions of dollars spent" hunting down weed smokers, medicinal or otherwise.

There are only like 140 people in federal prison at all for anything to do with weed, almost all of them are from a single district in Arizona, and they are drug mules who aren't just trafficking weed.

Not sure why you feel the need to try to derail every thread with whataboutisms or act like the government can't do anything unless they start with your personal priorities.

My friend you are wildly mistaken.

Answer this question. Why is cannabis a schedule 1 drug in 2025?

"The cannabis enforcement budget in the US is a significant expenditure. At the federal level, the budget for cannabis enforcement is around $3.96 billion, while state and local governments spend approximately $6.04 billion ¹. This totals around $10 billion annually on cannabis enforcement alone."

If you cannot intellectually answer why Cannabis is schedule 1 (by the power invested in the DEA), we cannot continue this conversation in good faith.

Anyone with a brain knows there is a lot of fat that needs trimmed in government programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Anyone with a brain also knows that having Elon hastily decide what needs trimmed is a bad idea.

Hammer, not a scalpel. Let's keep owning the libs tho.

You didn't even start the conversation in good faith, it was some tangent in a thread about fraud and skim from the largest programs.

No, that is not the cost. Those are old numbers from Obama's first term that came from advocacy groups, and they weren't even true then. They added the whole budget of the departments that are not marijuana specific, the then high balled court costs and corrections for anybody with anything marijuana related in their pile of crimes.

You keep saying "schedule 1" as if that would somehow lower the cost when it's already not enforced on its own. There are 145 people in federal prison with weed charges, and they are traffickers who weren't even just trafficking weed, and it obviously doesn't cost $27 million/person to arrest someone for smoking weed.

Why is cannabis currently a schedule 1 drug?

"Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse."

Make it make sense.

The cannabis enforcement budget in the US is a significant expenditure. At the federal level, the budget for cannabis enforcement is around $3.96 billion, while state and local governments spend approximately $6.04 billion ¹. This totals around $10 billion annually on cannabis enforcement alone.

It's worth noting that the overall budget for drug prohibition enforcement in the US is substantially higher, with federal spending totaling $18.47 billion and state and local spending reaching $29.37 billion ¹. These figures highlight the significant resources devoted to drug enforcement in the US.

The DEA is waste, fraud and abuse. If you disagree, why is the country experiencing a fentanyl epidemic?

You mention FEDERAL prison but what about STATE jails?

According to recent statistics, approximately 2.16 million people are incarcerated for marijuana-related charges ¹.

- *Arrests and Convictions*: In 2022, law enforcement officials made at least 227,108 arrests for marijuana-related violations, with 92% of these arrests being for marijuana possession alone ⁴.
- *Racial Disparities*: Black Americans accounted for over 27% of all drug-related arrests despite comprising just 13.6% of the national population ⁴.

These statistics highlight the complexities surrounding marijuana-related incarceration in the US.

Show me the receipts then.
Sorry if I don’t trust the word of a dude that sells vaporware on the reg.
The only receipt I have seen from Leon is when he tried to trade his masseuse a horse for a hand job. Leon is basically an un athletic with pipe cleaner arms version of Deshawn Watson.
I am sure the teenagers on Leon’s Doge Team at least kept the receipts

BS. Our leaders are all partisan assholes. Whoever is in charge, right or left, just does the exact opposite of what the other side does. We should all be sick of this shit.

Dude, you're the guy who claimed Maine schools didn't receive federal funding and did not have a clue what the DOE did in your state.

You are literally the uneducated idiot that Trump loves lmao

$3 billion and change is the DEA's entire budget, not some special weed department allocation.

No idea why you keep talking about state and local costs, since that has nothing at all to do with doge. The federal cost you're talking about is already mostly on fentanyl enforcement. I don't know what decade you think we're in, but the DEA are already not devoting their time to hunting down weed smokers, hence the 140 people in jail out of like 100 million weed smokers, and of course doge isn't even vaguely in charge f drug scheduling.

Why are you dodging the only question I have for you.

Lack of political will to made a vote to change it. We can't even get elected officials to vote to fix bridges and a vote to legalize pot could cause people to loose votes.

Correct. Congress has the power to reschedule it and they won't do it but only to pander during election season for votes.

But here's why the DEA needs to be audited and reformed. Cannabis is currently in the process of rescheduling and if you're following the court cases and administration hearings, the DEA themselves has been CAUGHT in several attempts to stonewall and sabotage the process.

This is why the DEA is corrupt, wasteful and needs to be audited by DOGE.

The DEA themselves don't want rescheduling and they are doing everything they can to prevent it. During Bidens administration and during Trump's.

But if tomorrow Elon or Trump posts about it during their drug induced 1am social media rants, guarantee you it would be rescheduled within a month.

Cannabis is a schedule 1 drug because the DEA is corrupt. That's the entire premise of my post. Can't believe we have a user here trying to defend the DEA.

You'd have to ask the congress of 55 years ago why they put it there, but even Joe Biden wasn't in congress until '73, so I doubt many of them are even alive.

The DEA has been caught on record in several attempts to sabotage and stop the current rescheduling process that was initiated during Bidens term.

Look it up its easily accessible.

What's your defense for why the DEA does not want rescheduling ?

Why say this then and say there's no widespread fraud now?

I cant load twitter or whatever this because of ad blockers

Whatever it is, is there a solution to address fraud and make it better for people who need the services?

Wait, let me get this straight: You think Trump and Elon want to make pot legal and that's why you like them?

Not at all. Just trying to get a MAGA fan to admit that when it comes to auditing departments for waste, fraud, abuse...they go after veterans or seniors or Department of Education but apparently the DEA is untouchable.

Shows how full of shit they truly are.

What does "caught on record" mean? If it's on record, then it isn't "caught", it's on record.

No idea about the drug scheduling or why I would have to have a "defense" for a bizarre tangent in a thread about medicare and medicaid. I said doge has nothing to do with drug scheduling, nobody in it was even alive when the drug was scheduled, and I have no problem with them rescheduling, it's just not a priority for me, and certainly not enough of one to claim they shouldn't do anything else until they've focused on weed.

You're being intentionally obtuse. This thread involves "fraud, waste, abuse". I'm asking why DOGE seems to be "auditing" every department except the important ones, such as the DEA.

There is a lot of fraud, waste, abuse in this organization and it all stems from the question of why is the DEA actively stopping cannabis from rescheduling from 1 to 3?

You can't answer this question because you know the conclusion is: the DEA is corrupt.

So why is DOGE so quiet on this obviously corrupt department?
