Everyone here knows Tuporia vacated right?

Yeah sure, but vacating the title?? The upside of jumping up a division to challenge for the belt is that you can lose and still go back to your own division as champ.
It seems weight-cut related, i guess he simply doesnt like it anymore, he would be small at LW.

From the current UFC LW rankings he would be tied for shortest with Tsarukyan, who has almost 4" reach on him, everyone else is both taller and longer reach.

Lol, I just found out myself and this actually changes everything. I would love for them to put him through some challenges like Arman before making the Islam fight. Arman and his team need to get on that quick!

Why should ilia settle for a lesser challenge when he can go straight to the best? He's about that life he's not Jon

I missed the announcement and jumped to commenting. Too much at once lol, I can't imagine casuals keeping track of this.

but he literally just did that in his last fight, How does beating dustin, now off a loss, help him at all?
Dustin is a LW legend, ilia is trying to make a name at LW by beating a legend. Now that ilia’s fully in the division there’s time to make the islam fight the correct way. He shouldn’t get an immediate shot.

Whatever the case he's certainly better off fighting charles, but if what dana white says is true, that Armen is not getting the next shot it, It will certainly be Illa.

That's a privilege that shouldn't be offered to fighters with only one defense. If you've cleared out the division and have five or more title defenses, sure, go up there and give it a shot. But if you've just got the belt and you're potentially going to be holding up two divisions, forget it.

Im old school….. if you wanna move up you should vacate your belt ….double champ shit has been holding up division for long enough

I just also found that out via Ariel Helwani YT.

Surprised that wasn't put into the announcement thread here on the fight. This is BIG news.

Also sounds stupid from Topuria?? What's the upside??
Upside is the best fighter in the world, #1 PVP, champ in 2 weight divisions (though not simultaneously holding both belts). Topuria has said he has enough money and is not fighting for money and that he wants to retire early, in a few years or something like that.

Also, he is already a huge superstar and if he beats Islam, he will become a global superstar and have even more endorsements than he already has.

The upside is limitless

IF he beats Islam..

IF he beats Islam..
Agreed. I would personally like to see Islam become a 2 division champ before he fights Topuria.

I believe Islam was offered Belal before they offered it to JDM, but of course, Islam turned that down

I hope Topuria fights Arman/Dustin before they give him shot at Islam.
