Edmen Shabazyan's weakness is...

He has terrible defence and is far too reckless.

He went really hard/ full trotlle afer bronSon hit him good, like he lost control, his normal pace was gone, go look at it.

Why is it that khabib can grapple for what seems like all day whereas Edmen gasses after one round despite also training since he was a child?

- I think he has sloppy striking. It doesn't look crisp to me and it's telegraphed.
- He believed in his hype too much. And he looked pass Brunson, instead of being in the moment.
- His thoughts of being the youngest champion hindered him more than helped. He should just take one fight at a time. And that's it, don't look too forward.
- His grappling didn't look that good. Seemed out of place. And bad TDD.

He's just a middleweight Zabit without Banasplits

Wow thats a good comparison with Zabit, very technical on the feet good/decent top game although Zabit is better on ground but both have trash cardio.

Maybe he can't fight through adversity. Kinda like sage northcut talented and athletic but cannot react when opponents take everything he throw at them still fights back.

Everyone who said cardio is correct!

Some examples of top Judo fighters with average to below average cardio:

1. Hector Lombard
2. Karo Parisyan
3. Ronda Rousey
4. Yoshihiro Akiyama (aka "Sexyama")

Question: Do you agree that one of the fundamental weaknesses of Judo fighters is cardio?

If so, why do Judo fighters often have problems with cardio, while many wrestlers do not?

Edmen's weakness is

  • NOT Stand-up striking - technically, Edmen was decent. He was getting the better of the exchanges in round 1 against Brunson.
  • NOT In the clinch, he did ok.
  • Takedown defense was a bit below average (Brunson's takedown attempts weren't very strong, but Edmen couldn't defend them). But this wasn't a glaring weakness that cost him the fight.

What is wrong with this picture?

Edmen has the same fundamental (nontechnical) weakness that Rousey and many martial artists in the Judo discipline have. Do you know what it is?

You can add DHK to that list (now retired I think?). He always faded after the second round. Ishii comes to mind too for poor cardio and judo specialist.

Black guys who dye their hair blonde..?

Thank you! I have been following mma for years and have never made the connection between cardio issues with fighters of a certain type of martial art, such as Judo.

By the way, to those who love Judo, I'm not trying to put down the martial art at all. I'm just trying to have a discussion about allegedly why Judo fighters seem to have issues with cardio endurance.

Did anyone notice how bad he looked on bottom? Maybe he was seriously concussed by some of those bombs from Brunson, but I didn’t see him close his guard once, he was just laying on his back waiting to get mounted or give up a choke.

Yes, I noticed he got hammered on the ground. Was it near the end of round 1 or in round 2?

I remember he got hit with body shots (1 kick and at least 1 punch) while standing.

You put coin on him to win via finish? Somone said they had +650 line for a Brunson victory via stoppage.
Yeah, I had a parlay with him and Jo Jo. I would have made like 500+ odds on a 100$ bet.
Rip JoJo lmao.

The correct answer is HEAD MOVEMENT!!!

Also, seriously, Judo takedowns seem to take a lot out of you. They're not as economically efficient as Jiu-Jitsu

Damn that's unlucky. Still not sure if Maia actually looked great or it was more that JoJo was massively overestimated as people were desperate for someone to provide Valentina even a modicum of a challenge. Don't think Maia has much for Valentina either tbf, if you lose to Carmouche and Chookagian whilst having regular issues making weight it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence imo.

Neither he nor his team thought that any of his fights would go past a round?

That is definitely a possibility. Either that or they did not properly push the pace of his sparring sessions to see where is endurance is.

In either cases, I'd say that's the weakness of the coaching team.
