Media Dustin Poirier did not go to salt lake early

I don't know if he's there yet, but in the embedded I believe he was the only guy not in Utah yet.

I'd favor Dustin if this were in another city like Vegas or NYC, however now with this info I'm slightly leaning towards Gaethje.
I really don't understand why the UFC put stacked cards like this in high elevation cities, it makes it so much more difficult for the fighters to prepare for that.

Agreed, I went back and watched their first fight. I've never seen Dustin have more output in the first Rd than in that fight, most people would have gassed after that, it was crazy. He won't be able to do that in Utah, especially now that he's coming in ill prepared imo. I see him losing this fight, hope I'm wrong though.

Now that you say it.
Rd1 132
Rd2 122
Rd3 73

pretty crazy, it was just too easy to land on Gaethje, who is a monster
He threw 115 against Holloway

His technique back then was way better than Gaethje's now. But Justin has other qualities.

Thanks for the numbers, I hadn't even looked them up. I just remember thinking like wtf as I was watching it. Dustin never stopped throwing. Very few fighters can do what he did in that first Rd and not blow their wad. That crucial aspect will be taken away from Dustin imo for this fight, that's why I have him losing.

I hope so too.
I'm a big DP fan and I'd like to see him get one more crack at the undisputed title before ending his career(BMF don't count). I also like Gaethje, but DP is a guy who's been in the UFC forever and personally I would rather see him get at least another shot in the near future.

Also is Jorge actually the one who's gonna put the BMF title on the winner? Because Gaethje has made it pretty clear he doesn't like him lol. It'll be pretty awkward if Jorge wraps the belt around the guy who dislikes him and just beat his teammate.

Been saying this, conditioning will be the defining factor, not skills. DP is confident in some elevation tent he's been sleeping in. It's not the same.
That’s interesting. Is the jury still out on that? I’ve heard that can be detrimental as the lack of oxygen during sleep can slow down recovery after a hard workout. I guess we’ll see. But I just can’t see Dustin gassing out in a kickboxing match. It’s just not taxing the way grappling is.

I doubt Jorge does that, I hope so though, it would be pretty entertaining. Ha

Apparently it's mentioned here(didn't watch the video, just what the headline says):

Saw another headline that Dana agrees with it.

The funny thing is I think Jorge doesn't know that Gaethje dislikes him, I'm pretty he's gone on record to say Gaethje one of his favorite fighters to watch in the modern era lol.
I can't find sources or specific videos sadly, all that is from way back in 2021.

To be completely honest I've never read up on it, I only know what I've seen in MMA. Leon Edwards used the same type of tent and came out to SLC two weeks early and he still gassed early. Not to mention everyone else on the card.

Recovery slowing down in low oxygen makes complete sense though. Circulation = Recovery.

Dustin - 37 fights:
7 losses. Two by decision.

Justin - 28 fights:
4 losses. None by decision.

Took Khabib ...
3 rounds to finish Dustin
2 rounds to finish Justin

There is no clear sign of cardio issues in performances, or M-math.

All we know for sure is ...
Poirier mucked Justin & far better competition.

(Dustin deserves a sherdog gif,
while conor's needs to be updated... to post KO)

Salt Lake is a city of contradictions. Incredibly beautiful. Some of the best skiing in the world. Weird Mormon politics can affect some who live there. When I was young and single living there was a blast. If you know the liquor laws, you can anticipate them so no big deal. USed to suck for out of staters who just wanted a glass of wine with dinner. Laws have eased up some now. It is a growing city and if you are young with no family there, religion and politics need not affect you there. Also for as strong as any dominant culture is, the counter-culture is just as strong. It's an interesting place with a solid regional fight scene too. I used to see some crazy punk rock shows there.
