DUMB AND DUMBER TO (Wins Weekend with $39 Million; Joe McPherson's Review)

Dumb and Dumberer was the only movie i ever walked out on.

i think it would be best to leave the series alone. i cant imagine coming remotely close to the original.

I want this film to work out for them, but I'm afraid they're just going to go for a straight gross-out fest.

The first film had its gross moments, but they weren't the appeal, and they were punctuated by actual funny moments, like the pets heads are falling off moments.
You rooted for them because they were dumb, but in the end, they only meant well.
They were a pain in the ass to some people, but it was grounded because they got their comeuppance, like when they got evicted, or frozen together.
I feel like this time around, they're just going to be written as jerks that gross people out, run amok and get away with it.

Critics Reviews for DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Rotten Tomatoes: 27% Approval Rating (24 out of 90 critics like it)

Consensus: Dumb and Dumber To does have its moments, but not enough of them -- and the Farrelly brothers' brand of humor is nowhere near as refreshingly transgressive as it once seemed.

Dumb-and-Dumber-To-Carrey-Daniels-111614-Dragonlord.jpg

Entertainment Weekly - C-
D&D To visually checks off all of the first film's hallmarks: the dog-groomer van, the upside-down breath spray moment, Petey the parakeet's blind owner, the ''most annoying sound in the world.'' The occasional clever sight gag proves the Farrellys are down but not quite out. But the material feels more desperate than funny. Carrey and Daniels are forced to wring this middling material so hard they must have calluses. The ultimate sad realization is not that Dumb & Dumber To doesn't match the original's good-time quotient, but that it might not even be as good as—yikes—Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

New York Daily News - 0/5
Some movie idiots are funnier than others. Yet Harry and Lloyd from “Dumb and Dumber” still hold a special spot for idiot aficionados, because that 1994 Farrelly brothers comedy combined a classic rubes-on-the-loose structure with dementedly inspired turns from Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Now Carrey and Daniels are back, but the laughs aren’t, in the dull, disappointing “Dumb and Dumber To.” From junky production values to the parade of unfunny supporting characters to its lazy energy, “Dumb and Dumber To” falls on its face. Although had a pratfall like that been here, it likely would’ve been messed up, too.

USA Today - 1/4
If there was any doubt that most things in society have been dumbed down in the last couple of decades, Dumb and Dumber To could be exhibit A. We last saw the intelligence-challenged duo of Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) 20 years ago, and the intervening years have made them neither wiser nor funnier for this lame sequel. In fact, they seem meaner, lewder and crasser. Whatever was lovable about them has dried up, their brainless boyishess having given way to nasty nattering. Daniels and Carrey give it their all, as does most of the aging cast. And there's something oddly brave about that. And pathetic.

Associated Press - 1.5/4
But, what may have been subversive and irreverent in 1994, now just seems vulgar, hateful and tone-deaf — from their unabashedly misogynistic treatment of women (including Kathleen Turner as Penny's mom) to their insidious racism. In the harsh light of 2014, their juvenile buffoonery looks embarrassing and lazy. It's hard to imagine a new generation latching on to this brand of humor. The ill-conceived sequel, however, is so uninspired that it could retroactively tarnish our affection for the original.

Rolling Stone - 1.5/4
The bad news isn’t that Carrey and Daniels got old, it's that the jokes did. The spirit is still willing in Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the original writer-directors, but the sagging flesh is weak from prolonged repetition. Presumably, the Farrelly combo of sentiment and sleaze will never die. Because so many gags fall flat, you may treasure the ones that do. Why? Out of respect for the way Carrey and Daniels throw themselves into gross stupidity. Or maybe affection for the Farrellys in the heyday of There's Something About Mary, Kingpin and the first Dumb and Dumber. Time can be cruel, especially to sequels.

James Berardinelli - 2/4
Dumb and Dumber To is constructed like most road movies, with an episodic structure. A few of these segments are amusing; most do little more than pad out the running time. There are some big laughs but many of the jokes try too hard or simply aren't funny. The returning actors deliver as expected. Despite being sporadically entertaining, Dumb and Dumber To has all the hallmarks of a nostalgia-fueled cash-grab. It's neither good nor terrible and even those who remember its predecessor with affection would be advised to wait for the DVD. This doesn't need to be seen in theaters or, for that matter, at all.

First Trailer for The Farrelly Bros' DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Dumb-and-Dumber-To-061014-Dragonlord.jpg

Universal Pictures has released the first Dumb and Dumber To trailer for directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s comedy sequel. The follow-up takes place 20 years after the events of the first film, with Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) setting out on a road trip in order to find the child Harry never knew he had. As it turns out, that child is a daughter, and that daughter is quite attractive, enough to stir long-dormant feelings of love in Lloyd’s poor dumb heart. There’s a whole range of comedy on display here, from dumb, to dumber, to downright gross, but it’s exactly what you might expect from the Farrellys.

On Tuesday night’s Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Carrey and Daniels made an appearance to unveil the first trailer for Dumb and Dumber To. In introducing the trailer, Fallon explained, "It starts with Lloyd Christmas has been in an asylum." Carrey interjected, "Yes, he has. He’s been there for quite some time." Fallon continues, "So he has a long beard and long hair, and he’s in a wheelchair." Carrey interrupts, "He’s only joking." Fallon adds, "So he’s just kidding for twenty years." Dumb and Dumber To also stars Laurie Holden and Rob Riggle, and opens November 14th.

Jennifer Lawrence's Cameo Cut from DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Jennifer-Lawrence-Image-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

Harry and Lloyd are adding some Oscar-winning star power to Dumb and Dumber To. Jennifer Lawrence is making a cameo in the sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, reporting to the Atlanta set to play a young version of Kathleen Turner's character. Lawrence's Hunger Games: Mockingjay set is nearby, and sources say the entire cast has visited the Dumb and Dumber To location.

The sequel to Peter and Bobby Farrelly's 1994 comedy classic will follow Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels' dimwitted duo as they embark on another road trip to find Harry's long-lost daughter. Rob Riggle is also among the cast, which includes Turner, Rachel Melvin, Laurie Holden and Steve Tom. Dumb and Dumber To is set for a 2014 release via Universal.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence said that Dumb and Dumber was among her favorite comedies. "I know every word to Dumb and Dumber, Step Brothers and Anchorman," she said. Challenged by Fallon to recite a specific line from Dumb and Dumber, Lawrence responded right on cue.

[Update: Jennifer Lawrence reportedly cut her cameo in Dumb and Dumber To. The actress had filmed scenes as the younger version of Kathleen Turner’s Fraida Felcher, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, she didn’t like her cameo and vetoed the scenes before the final cut.]

Rob Riggle to Play Twins in Farrelly's DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Rob-Riggle-Joins-Dumb-and-Dumber-To-Dragonlord.jpg

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen Dumb and Dumber To will feature returns from Billy in 4C (pretty bird, pretty bird) and possibly Sea Bass (kick his ass!). Today, THR reports that Rob Riggle has nabbed one of the last major roles in the sequel to the 1990s comedy classic being directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Riggle has the plum part of playing twins, a handyman named Travis and his unstable brother, Captain Lippencott.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are reprising their roles as dim-witted best friends Lloyd and Harry who hit the road to find Harry’s long-lost daughter to donate a kidney for a transplant. Kathleen Turner, Rachel Melvin, Laurie Holden and Steve Tom are already on board the movie, which is shooting in Atlanta. The screenplay is written by the Farrellys, Bennett Yellin and Mike Cerrone. Sean Anders and John Morris penned an earlier draft.

Riggle is known for his scene-stealing performances and has grabbed the spotlight in comedies such as The Hangover and 21 Jump Street. He recently wrapped Fox’s Let’s Be Cops and is slated to return for 22 Jump Street.

Cam Neely Returns for DUMB AND DUMBER TO; Milan Lucic to Join?

Cam-Neely-Dumb-and-Dumber-Dragonlord.jpg

Dumb and Dumber To is showing some love to minor characters from the original. Yesterday, we got a photo of a grown-up Brady Bluhm, who played the blind Billy in 4C. Today, JimCarreyOnline.com is reporting that former Bruins right wing Cam Neely will be reprising his role as angry trucker Sea Bass. Filming on Dumber and Dumber To is underway with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels returning to play Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, respectively. Laurie Holden is set to co-star as the female lead.

The site is also reporting there are rumors swirling around that fellow Bruin Milan Lucic could make an appearance as Sea Bass’ son. This is something Lucic has been pushing for for quite some time. Knowing the sequel was in the works, he approached Bobby Farrelly last June about writing in a part for him to play. "Lucic said, 'Listen, I heard you’re going to do a sequel to Dumb and Dumber. I want to be son of Seabass'," recalled Bobby Farrelly. "I looked at him and thought, 'You know what? That’s not a bad idea.' Because he looks a lot like Cam, plays a lot like Cam. I’ve got to convince my brother. We need to figure out a way to make it work."

First Images of Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels in DUMB AND DUMBER TO

nxrvwh.jpg

It’s really happening. Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey on Tuesday tweeted out the first photos from the set of Dumb and Dumber To, Universal's long-awaited sequel to the 1994 comedy. "We're back!!!" Daniels said in his tweet, posting a photo of him and Carrey in character -- complete with awful haircuts and awkward smiles. Carrey, who is also celebrating the release of his children's book -- How Roland Rolls -- on Tuesday, posted a photo of him and Daniels attempting to read it.

"How Roland Rolls comes out TODAY but it may be a little too sophisticated for Lloyd and Harry!" With Carrey's chipped tooth on display, Carrey and Daniels are shown holding the book upside down and smiling like goofballs in the photo. Peter and Bobby Farrelly have returned to helm the sequel, which finds Lloyd and Harry embarking on another road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had. Laurie Holden Lands Female Lead in DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Laurie-Holden-Dumb-Dumber-To-Dragonlord.jpg

Universal and Red Granite's Dumb and Dumber sequel is rounding out its cast by adding Laurie Holden, Steve Tom and Rachel Melvin. Directed by Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly, Dumb and Dumber To catches up with the dim-witted best friends Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) 20 years later as they hit the road to find Harry's illegitimate daughter for a kidney transplant.

The new additions to the cast will play the Pichlow family. Walking Dead star Holden is not the female lead, but will play the key role of Adele Pichlow, the wife of a wealthy doctor who has hatched a nefarious plan involving the lives of her husband, Dr. Pichlow (Tom) and her step-daughter Penny (Melvin). Holden has played Andrea, a human survivor after the zombie infestation, on AMC’s The Walking Dead since the show’s first season.

Billy in 4C Returns for The Farrelly's DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Billy-in-4C-Dumb-and-Dumber-Dragonlord.jpg

Dumb and Dumber To is turning into a true reunion as writers-directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly today revealed that Brady Bluhm, the actor who portrayed Billy in 4C in the 1995 original, will reprise his role for the much-anticipated sequel. "It's official!" the brothers posted to Twitter. "Billy in 4C (I just thought he was really quiet) is returning in #DumbTo! Played again by the highly underrated Brady Bluhm."

Billy, fans will remember, was the blind neighbor boy to whom Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey's Harry and Lloyd sold their headless bird, Petey. Following the release of the original film, actor Bluhm went on to voice Christopher Robin in a series of direct-to-home-video Winnie the Pooh films. He recently starred in a film that he also co-created and edited, The Last Man(s) on Earth.

Kathleen Turner Joins the Farrelly's DUMB AND DUMBER Sequel

Kathleen-Turner-The-Perfect-Family-Dragonlord.jpg

Kathleen Turner (Romancing the Stone, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) is set to get fairly dumb for the Farrelly brothers. According to Variety, the stage and screen star has boarded Universal's upcoming Dumb and Dumber To, which will once again star Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. For now, the plot is being kept under wraps, as is Turner's role. Previous reports speculated that the film would find Carrey and Daniels on a cross-country road trip.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly will return to helm the sequel as well as rewrite the original script written by Sean Anders and John Morris. Warner Bros was originally behind the project, but dropped the film earlier this summer. The original buddy comedy was a box office hit, grossing $127,175,374 in the United States, and $247,275,374 worldwide, and topping the holiday season film gross.

Kathleen Turner is well known for her many starring film roles, including Body Heat, The Man With Two Brains, Crimes of Passion, The War of the Roses, Peggy Sue Got Married, among many others. Turner also has won critical acclaim for her stage performances on and off Broadway.

DUMB AND DUMBER TO to Begin Filming in September

Dumb-and-Dumber-Holly-Daniels-Dragonlord.jpg

After a string of flops, the Farrelly Brothers‘ will return to one of their most popular films by finally going ahead with Dumb and Dumber To. The sequel has had its ups and downs, especially with Jim Carrey’s frustration with Warner Bros. letting the project linger in development hell. Universal eventually picked up the rights, Carrey and co-star Jeff Daniels will return, and on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Daniels said they’re scheduled to start filming in September.

As it was previously reported, the movie is on track for a summer 2014 release, which would mark the 20th anniversary of the original’s release. “I’ve seen the script. It’s hysterical,” Daniels told Fallon. “We’re middle-aged, we’re not pretending we aren’t. We’re middle-aged and we’re still that stupid.”

New Details for DUMB AND DUMBER TO; Eyed for Summer 2014

Dumb-and-Dumber-Chili-Dragonlord.jpg

After a year or so of stops and starts regarding a sequel to Dumb and Dumber, it was announced last night that Dumb and Dumber To has secured financing and distribution at last, with production looking to get underway as early as this fall. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels both reprise their roles from the 1994 film, and writers/directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly are back as well. While the Farrelly brothers previously revealed that the film would find either Harry or Lloyd being a father, Peter remained a bit more vague when describing the story on the podcast:

“We start in Rhode Island and we pick up today and explain what they’ve been doing the last 18 years. And there is something that happens and we get off to the races quickly.” … ”When you see Dumb and Dumber To, Dumb and Dumber 1 is better because you learn things in Dumb and Dumber To that you knew in Dumb and Dumber 1 but hadn’t put together. For instance, not giving away too much, Harry always gets revenge. ” … “And when you see the second one, it has a thing that you won’t see coming , and at the end of it, you’ll be like ‘oh my god, I just fell for the exact same thing.’”

Farrelly revealed that the film will likely hit theaters next summer. Farrelly also confirmed that Harland Williams is poised to reprise his role as the pee-drinking cop from the first film, and he may or may not have been joking when he added that the blind kid will be back as a grown man as well. Filming is planned to take place in Atlanta, where the production will be taking advantage of Georgia’s tax credits.

DUMB AND DUMBER 2 Moves Forward with Universal, Red Granite

When last reported on the status of the Dumb & Dumber sequel, it had been dropped by Warner Bros. with Bobby and Peter Farrelly eyeing Red Granite to finance and a number of studios vying for domestic distribution. Today, the Farrelly brothers confirmed that Red Granite will indeed be backing the film as well as handling international distribution, and that Universal Pictures has stepped in as a domestic distributor. Here’s what Peter Farrelly had to Tweet earlier today:

Warner Bros. Drops the Farrelly's DUMB AND DUMBER Sequel

34q69zt.jpg

Dumb and Dumber To is up for grabs. The planned sequel to one of the biggest comedies of the 1990s has been in the works for years at New Line Cinema. But now sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that New Line parent Warner Bros. is declining to move forward and will allow the project be shopped to other studios.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are attached to reprise their starring roles, and Bobby and Peter Farrelly are back in the directors’ chair for a sequel that would see Carrey and Daniels hit the road to find Daniels’ illegitimate daughter for a kidney transplant.

Sources say the studio sees only limited upside in a follow-up and is unwilling to give it the greenlight, despite a budget in the low $30 million range. (The decision comes in the wake of the poor box office performance of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. That movie also cost in the $30 million range but grossed only $22 million domestically.) The Farrellys now will seek a new financier and distributor for the project.

Farrelly Brothers Sequel Officially Titled DUMB AND DUMBER TO

112hmqb.jpg

Though the title has been rumored for some time, Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly have confirmed, via their Twitter feed, that their upcoming Dumb & Dumber sequel is officially titled Dumb and Dumber To. "You also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To (sic) script," they tweeted, adding their own parenthetical. "I think you're going to like it."

Recent reports suggest that the plot will follow Harry and Lloyd 20 years later trying to track down one of their children. The original Dumb & Dumber represented one of Carrey's breakout comedy roles. The film was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, but without the creative involvement of the Farrellys. Due to Daniels' commitment to HBO's "The Newsroom," the plan is for Dumb and Dumber To to shoot in the spring of 2013.

Farrelly Bros. Reveal Plot Details For DUMB AND DUMBER Sequel

Dumb%20and%20Dumber.png

The Farrelly Brothers have long expressed a desire to make a follow-up to 1994's Dumb and Dumber, which starred Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) as good-natured but moronic friends Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. One of the major holdups in getting the project rolling was Jim Carrey who, perhaps rightly, expressed too much hesitation at the idea of a sequel at all (after his experience with Ace Venture: When Nature Calls, Carrey did not appear in sequels for his other projects).

As more details surfaced, though, it appeared that Carrey’s hesitation had more to do with studio compensation for the sequel rather than the overall idea of a follow-up. With the Farrelly Brothers themselves set to write and direct and Jeff Daniels already expressing interest, it seems the project is back on. Bobby Farrelly recently spoke about the the sequel, to be titled Dumb and Dumber To [sic], saying

“[Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels] are in a point in their career where they had so much fun the first time that they’re willing to do it. We will make this movie. The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.”

According to IGN, the brothers are looking for an autumn 2013 release, and they have confirmed for wary audiences worried about the continued dumbness of the main characters, “I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them.”

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels to Return in DUMB AND DUMBER 2

Dumb-Dumber-2.jpg

Last October, it was reported that Peter and Bobby Farrelly were planning a sequel to 1994’s Dumb and Dumber and they wanted to bring back Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels to reprise their classic roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. Now, Comingsoon has reported that at the junket for he and his brothers' latest, The Three Stooges, Peter Farrelly says that not only Dumb and Dumber 2 coming, it's set to begin production later this year.

"We're getting set to shoot 'Dumb and Dumber 2' in September," Peter Farrelly says. "It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back. "We did not do 'Dumb and Dumberer'," he continues. "That was a studio thing. So we've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb and Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

Jim Carrey Planning Bruce Almighty, Dumb and Dumber Sequels

Bruce-Almighty-Dumb-and-Dumber-Dragonlord.jpg

Jim Carrey makes a return to physical comedy with the June 17th release of Mr. Popper's Penguins and ComingSoon.net was on-hand to speak exclusively with the actor about the adaptation of the classic children's book. We'll have the full video interview soon, but Carrey did also offer some news about two potential upcoming projects that should have his fans excited. Carrey teased when asked what he might follow Penguins,

"We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about... There's 'Bruce Almighty' and we're talking about maybe another 'Dumb and Dumber'." The original Dumb and Dumber, released in 1994 and directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly, paired Carrey with Jeff Daniels and represented one of Carrey's breakout comedy roles. Bruce Almighty, released in 2003, was an international hit, grossing $485 million internationally.

Interestingly, both films have already received quasi-sequels without Carrey's involvement. Bruce was spun off into Evan Almighty in 2007, featuring Steve Carell taking over the lead. Dumb and Dumber was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

i dont want to see those sequels

i want to see the ACE VENTURA sequel!!

Dumb and Dumber would be great. I would love to see what they're up to so many years later.

Bruce Almighty is the white man's Tyler Perry's (insert shit movie title). They should have stopped at one...and now 3? C'mon.

Dumb and Dumber is arguably the funniest movie ever made. A sequel cannot and will not live up to the original. Its an absolute disgrace to even consider such a move.

Dania Ramirez is one of the hottest, sexiest pieces of ass I've ever seen...in some pics/scenes and meh in others. She confuses my wang.

1.Why in God's(pun intended) name is he making Bruce Almighty sequel? What's the point?
2.Dumber and Dumber sequel I dunno...could be done good if Jeff Daniels returns.
3.Sequels with Jim Carrey I want to see are Mask and Ace Ventura.

well atleast they're not rebooting it (THANK GOD!).

Dumb and Dumber is the funniest movie I have ever seen, and quite possibly the most quoted movie of its time. It's going to be interesting to see if they can pull it off again. I'm curious if the Farrelly bros come back to direct. I'm not sure if I want them too after seeing Hall Pass.

And who exactly tells Jim Carrey what to do, it seems like he just goes bananas on film. It's like the directors go "Ok Jim do what you got to do"

Farrellys Planning DUMB AND DUMBER Sequel With Carrey, Daniels

Dumb-Dumber-2.jpg

Peter and Bobby Farrelly are moving forward with a Dumb and Dumber sequel now that their dream project The Three Stooges recently wrapped production. Deadline reports the Farrelly brothers are hoping to bring the film's original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels for the sequel. Sean Anders and John Morris have been hired to write the script.

The original Dumb and Dumber, made on a $16 million budget, grossed nearly $250 million worldwide. Then New Line Cinema got greedy and coughed up the dreadful sequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

The original Dumb and Dumber was one of the most hilarious gut-busting comedies I've seen but the prospect of a sequel doesn't really excite me since the Farrellys haven't done anything really worthwhile lately.
