Media Dricus Du Plessis TKO Robert Whittaker GIFS

Crazy fight and even crazier seeing Du Plessis earning his title shot against a guy like Whittaker, but seeing how he performed in his previous fights, I don't really think he has much for Izzy.
I think this fight with Whittaker will lead people to think that he has a chance bigger than he actually has to beat Adesanya.

Anything is possible, but I think it's unlikely that he beats Adesanya. However, one thing that keeps me interested about this matchup is that Du Plessis will most likely bring the fight to Adesanya, so even if he loses, we will still see something exciting there. That's what I hope.
I can never get those Till/Brunson fights out of my mind I still feel in disbelief over his exceptional performance over Whittaker.

Nice KO but I don't honestly think he would do well against Izzy.

I'm a massive Whittaker fan but I was seriously impressed by DDP awareness. He had Bobby rocked and then immediately threw body shots, leg kicks, etc. Shows composure and discipline to keep mixing up shots when you smell blood

I think if he took Whittaker down, he has a good shot at taking Izzy down as well and could implement the Blachowicz gameplan.

I Wonder what people will say when Dricus beats Izzy? Will Izzy have suddenly fallen off or not be in his prime?
Well when Izzy fights Dricus he will be 34 with a much longer combat sports career than Whittaker.

If Izzy had lost to anyone other than the guy who beat him 3 times already people would have brought his possible decline up after he lost his belt. He looks like he's 25 but in a few years people will look up and realize he's an old ass man in terms of fighting age.

It was weird, the shot that dropped him. Like a step through jab. Right on the bridge of the nose though.

It's the movement. He moved forward as he threw the jab, at the same time Whittaker was also moving forward. Maybe not a lot, but he took twice the full force of that punch

-Rob looked terrible, definitely not at his best
-it's still Dircus' best win, he was in trouble against worse fighters
-Dircus is better than I thought

what was amazing is when he connected the hard shot on the chin,
he still moved away in a defensive stance, something he did not do so many times
so he was calculated landing, and still avoiding to get caught

the guy is interresting matchup with the champion for sure
he has some heavy hands

So we're playing the Rob is on decline card now?
In fairness can't really tell after just one fight but can't be at the top forever after having so many tough fights and injuries. Just my thoughts, could be wrong

Aging overnight is pretty common in MMA so I'm never that shocked when someone goes on a sudden, precipitous decline.

For some reason I thought Robert took a way out. But he ate a bomb to the ear there and was rocked from the start with that big jab.

Driscus fought like a tank

Think we might be seeing Rob's chin giving out now. Two wars with Yoel, rock em sock em with Brunson and Till and a knockout loss to Izzy - that's just at MW.

Nature of the beast I guess. This loss could breathe new life in the division.

Very possible Rob eats those shots a few years ago.

But you can only fight who is in front you and DDP deserves credit for beating 2023 Rob.

I know Whittaker has been stopped before but has he ever sat down and covered up?

The dude took everything from Romero and kept moving and doing whatever he needed to stay alive.

But this time he just covered up by the fence, then dropped to his knees and kept covering up

He's never had an iron chin, but what he has had is amazing recoverability. I think that might be gone for him. He just can't recover anymore like he used to.

He didn't look mentally in the fight (i.e. that he actually wanted to be in there) at the start of round 2.

Something changed in him after the Izzy KO, which isn't surprising - fighters are rarely the same after bad KO's and that one is absolutely brutal (plus happened twice in the same fight basically).

Now as soon as he's hurt he looks like he's trying to survive, where before he'd almost immediately be throwing back with serious heat.
