Don't call it a comeback (karate in UFC) adesanya, GSP, Jones, crocop?

That's a cool video but that certainly isn't a karate sidekick

I didn’t say it WAS a karate side kick.

We were talking about side kicks in Muay Thai, which are different but used ALOT.

Also, did you watch the whole video?

Because Samart threw both side teeps, and side kicks

The side teep is like a “side kicking jab”, where the side kick was thrown with full power and was knocking his opponent down.

At the amount of effectively landed eye pokes (Nukite) and groin kicks (Kin Geri) on every UFC card, you can see that traditional shotokan karate techniques are applied frequently in MMA.

yeah, I am VERY familiar with muay thai, Samart has a very western style of boxing and was known for non traditional muay thai

you can see even the spinning side/wheel kick in MT...just rarely

Not even close. This false comparison likely comes from the TKD instructors opening 1000s of trash schools in the 1980/90s and calling them “<insert name Karate”. I’m sure all the Oki/Japan instructors established since the 1970s appreciated this a ton. /smh

are you saying that Adesanya is a TKD stylist??

TKD and Karate are nearly identical, different but not a lot.

..muay thai is RADICALLY different and highly recognizable

Cejudo is not, he recently started using certain aspects but has no background
Adesanya is not a karate fighter, he’s a kick boxer
Lol at Chuck Liddell
Have you ever looked at Chuck's tat?..kempo is karate

Although it isn't the most common style, we see MMA fighters using the side stance more than than ever before other than maybe the early UFC days. In that regard, the Machida era was a real thing which maybe we're still living in.

My point was about how much you actually do see those techniques in REAL Muay Thai fights, as well as Takedowns.

Like i said, I haven’t kept up with it in a long time, but in Thailand you see it ALOT, or at least you did years back, but I can’t see that changing.

GREAT point about takedowns...real muay thai has AWESOME takedowns

I have hundreds of hours of direct THAI footage from the late 80ties and 90ties and I have seen VERY few side/spinning kicks...however they do happen

Heres a guy with a 90% karate style

He was trained in Sanda, what Karate man fight like that? you just have Machida. A kick is a kick, exist the Siamese way and the rest of the world way. No need to label things in this century

TKD and Karate are not nearly identical. You couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Go watch Machida or Uriah Hall fight...
(hint: Karate base)

Go watch Pettis or Daron Cruickshank fight...
(hint: TKD base)

Can you not see a glaring difference in use of distance, footwork, and kicks (especially spinning shit)?

Yeah...clearly from my video it details that

However they all kick the same

Karate, tkd, sanda

Its Muaythai thats different

Tkd karate and sanda are all sisters...MT
is the long lost cousin

only fighting karate and Sanda maintained the takedown transition and fighting karate maintained the knees so at the end of the day I'd say fighting karate is the most effective followed by sanda as Olympic TKD is completely worthless

traditional TKD has a claim

Thanks to McDojos, people underrate karate
The real karate is just as good as Muay Thai

Lol

Tkd switch step and spin more than karate

Otherwise they are extremely similar

Muay Thai is very different

Muay Thai fighters dont throw spinning wheel/side kicks....the can very rarely be seen in muay thai

They are a staple of tkd karate and sanda

100%

In fact id say real karate is even better for MMA

True MMA striking is a hybred of KARATE/tkd and Muay Thai

ever since the movie kick boxer MT has been the hot art just like the Bjj is thanks to the first few UFC

so it's the marketable one these days

that's why all these gyms claim they teach muaythai and then their fighters get in the ring and throw karate kicks

It's actually a kind of good thing that karate stylists are converting to Muay Thai as the conversion can be highly effective they just abandon the name karate because it's no longer marketable since those silly Jean-Claude movies
