Don't call it a comeback (karate in UFC) adesanya, GSP, Jones, crocop?

Jones is a MT striker that includes certain karate kicks.

It's disingenuous to says he's a karate stylist.

Ok thanks, I thought he was a karate stylists that included certain muay thai kicks...becauae he throws more karate style kicks than muay thai style kicks.

And his stance is more karate than muay thai.

And he's certainly not using a Thai style boxing system. Where he holds his hands and his head movement is very much not Muay Thai.

Oh man you got to love epic confirmation when you get it

at 4 minutes 30 seconds of the first round of Adesanya vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Joe Rogan makes it clear that he noticed the karate style fighting stance and techniques of adesanya as well...

Like I said TK is not Karate
TK is way more kick oriented

Where do you think TKD came from, bro?

TKD streamlined the older Korean martial arts of Subak (수박), Taekkyeon (택견) and Gwonbeop (권법).

thats a myth. It comes from karate.

karate is a combination of kung fu and indigenous Okinawan martial arts.
Fixed.

There is not just one Karate. The first was White Crane, went to Okinawa then to Japan. Then slowly evolved to the different schools we have now. But TKD doesnt evolve from that line.

tkd comes from tang so do which comes from shotokan and okinawan karate.
TKD and Tang Soo Do came about from the same WW2-ish origins. Chicken / egg debates rage on.

I thought it came from Shotokan around/after ww2?
Similar to Okinawan karate, TKD came from exposure to the Japanese karate of the early twentieth century combined with the indigenous korean arts. Latter which also had some undetermined influence from neighboring China.

MMA forums love to rehash. The base principles underlying TKD parallel that of the Japanese karates, most prominently Shotokan by all appearances.<Oku03>

You asked if Karate is making a comeback and 2 of the four fighters in your thread title are retired. On top of that, Jones background is mostly Muay Thai training... Israel might have a karate background though, I actually don't know what he started in.

Karate by measurable traditional standards, isn't really seen in MMA. Sloppy conventional kumite competition style is most @ best. Witness MVP's slop against his Bellator opponent (Lima)... he defeated himself.

Stephen Thompson's slop against Pettis, which got him KOTFO. Plus a 5-round run fest from Darren Till of all people.<{1-9}>Adesanya chucked TKD as a kid. Rose too when she began @ RoufusSport.

I'd say the dominant style at the moment is an adapted form of kickboxing which took it's main influence from Dutch style "Muay Thai". The latter is named that way but historically that style took a lot from Kyokushin and boxing.

Western boxing guard, closing the distance behind a flurry of punches kyokushin style, ending with a Thai style (low) kick. Basically what the Dutch introduced to kickboxing in the late 80's and the Brazillians introduced to mma about 20 years ago.

All these styles have been mixed so much over the years you barely see true specialists in stand up competition, let alone in mma.

It doesn't optimize your limbs or energy and is heavily dependent on youth, so it actually sucks to a degree, but some of its fun to watch.

forgot about Cormier brah

Jones was / is trained as a Muay Thai, then boxing striker. Evident in his destruction of Machida.<Aug3>

that's just what they tell the Fanboys

if you know what you're looking at it's clear that JJ is all about the karate style kicking

Muay thai fighters rarely throw spinning sidekick Sidekicks wheel kicks oblique kicks or anything like that

they throw front kicks and round kicks about 99%

Fighting karate is more adaptable to MMA

We just don't practice it that way in America

Israel is a muay thai style kickboxer who picked stuff up along the way.

He uses karate when he fights

And im pretty certain he did karate/tae kwon do 1st

So he later picked up muaythai

Long story short he fights with karate NOT strict MuayThai

That is not Karate anymore
