Donald Trump risks China rift with Taiwan call

Good for Trump. Taiwan is its own nation, it isn't part of China. So fuck China and anyone that is talking smack about Trump for doing the right thing.

Not all of Taiwan agrees with this sentiment.

65% of Taiwanese people support the status quo, while the vast majority supports independence over reunification, most of them dont really want to rock the boat.

Accepting a call from a democratically elected leader and getting moaned at by a non-democracy. Selling arms to Taiwan means there has been, and is contact between them and the States, obviously. China knows this, so why do they even need to comment at all?

So are the people who proclaimed "there is no way Trump knew what he was doing" going to admit they were wrong yet?

Has there been any official 'outrage' from China itself about this?

I've only seen MSM claiming "China is like really, super mad", I'm paraphrasing.

Trump has no idea what he is doing, his tweets are proof of that, if this was calculated it was probably Bolton or one of the neocons that would benefit from cross strait tensions.

Taiwan's official name is Republic of China. The previous ruling party of Taiwan, the KMT, ruled China from 1911 to 1949. After losing the civil war, Taiwan was only kept out of Communist hands through US intervention. It's a similar situation to North/South Korea.

What's funny about this whole call thing is that the liberal media is more mad about it than China.

This thread makes me sad. You guys have no idea what Taiwan is about.

I agree, but also people have no idea how dependant on China the economy of Taiwan has become in the last 15 years.

He just watches SNL and does whatever Alec Baldwin does.

Taiwan is fine. They can handle shit on their own. They don't need help from China or the US. The smartest and most hard working people in the world are Taiwanese.

Taiwan exports go mainly to China and Taiwan investments too, a lot of Taiwans production supply chains are also in China, not to mention a lot of Taiwan´s trading partners are also economically attached to China.

So no, a tiny country like Taiwan could very well be thrown into complete economic disarray if the Chinese wanted to, that of course is not what the Chinese want, neither the Taiwanese, but if China´s hand is forced they will do it.

Unlike the next US president, China doesn't "tweet" it's foreign policy. If there was any "official outrage" you wouldn't hear about it--unless they called trump personally and trump tweeted it.

Of course anybody that knows a damn thing about US relations with China knows that the US recognizing Taiwan in any way is just about the biggest middle finger you can give China.

So Trump accepting a congratulatory call from the democratically elected Taiwanese president is a problem because it might piss off the dictator of China?

But we gave Taiwan millions in aid and billions in weapons and that's not a problem?

I think the problem with China is not with Taiwan per se, but with the independentists in Taiwan.

Therefore Obama and others selling weapons to Taiwan is not as much of an issue as it is propping up the independentist politicians.

The phone call didnt raised any objections from China until Donald claimed that Tsai called him and Bolton claiming that it was not a random call, which means that a pro-independence president of the ROC is working with the cabinet of the president-elect.

China is already taking over Taiwan economically, thats why they have not really cared much about weapon sales as they did in the 90s.

There is no logic in the world that will make a phone call more outrageous than selling a fuckload of weapons to Taiwan. None.

You're fake outraging at Trump. Excuse giving for Obama. The end.

Wall Street Journal reportedformer Sen. Bob Dole helped set up Donald Trump's controversial call with Taiwan, a new report reveals Dole's law firm was paid $20,000 a month to advance Taiwan's interests in Washington D.C.
