Don't care about the Taiwan thing. It is a country and we only cut diplomatic relations under Nixon to create better relations with China. No one but China gives a crap and even at that the common person on either side doesn't give two flips. Financial ties between the two countries is strong and to mess that up would be in no one's interest. Just like how China didn't go into Hong Kong when it got turned over. It didn't want to mess with the revenue stream that Hong Kong brings in.

If selling arms to Taiwan is standard procedure, that is far more substantial than accepting a phone call. Yet we are to be outraged at the phone call?

I dont disagree with stopping China from making Taiwan another Hong Kong.

But do you think Trump will actually shift policy or is he just stirring the pot and then backing out leaving Taiwan alone if the cost becomes too insurmountable?

After all Taiwan does kinda needs of China, after all its not like the US is known for not throwing allies under the bus once things get too difficult for them (Kurds, Vietnamese, moderate rebels etc etc).
