Sandbag Sit to Stand: is this the sandbag equivalent of a barbell box squat?

I just do them on my bench but essentially I have a 1 second pause in there

That's exactly what I do with SS Bar Box Squats. The bench is the perfect height; when I sit down, my thighs are parallel. I hold it for one second before I stand up again. Bouncing off a box/bench with a heavy barbell on your back is just asking for a serious injury.

After struggling with a herniated disk at L4 from deadlifts going in 2 years ago now, I find this is the safest for my back.

My left hip is really immobile so when I get below parallel, it tweaks my spine. My wife is a physio so I have the support I just don’t have the time.

My training since the injury is typically:

Get hurt and have massive nerve pain in my ass and legs for weeks

Feel good enough to do body weight stuff

Feel good enough to do barbell work

Feel good enough to put on actual weight

Get hurt and have massive nerve pain in my ass and legs for weeks.

I’m hoping this time, doing more sandbag work and mobility work I can avoid it.

Sorry for the late message but congratulations on the new arrival! Hope everything OK with you all.
