Dog meat: There are countries that eat it !

I was deeply scarred by a video about the dog meat trade.

The one image I can't get out of head was a clip from a street market in an Asian country. They had 7-10 live dogs laying on their sides with their front legs tied behind their backs. The dogs were just laying there barking and whining. Dogs legs don't naturally go all the way behind there backs.

Still makes me sick 10 years later

Pigs are very intelligent and they're the most delicious meat of all.

nope the dislocating dogs legs and tying them behind the back happens in philippines and indonesia where people round up street dogs to take them to open markets for sale and this is so the dog doesnt move or bite ( since its a stray) that doesnt happen in korea. dogs for food must be farmed for disease prevention reasons. netflix has a documentary about the indonesian dog meat trade.

Still the dog probably tasted better than the filipino food that your Father in Law is used to

Am I right? Am I right?
I doubt he ate it, as they are not so poor...who knows. The culture here just has little regard for dogs and treat them as tools, not living creatures. There was actually another expat killed near here recently because he quarreled with the locals for their asinine treatment of dogs.

There is zero difference between dogs or cows or pigs or goats etc. Killing them all is equally disgusting and sadistic and unnenecessary imposition of pain and suffering. Every country simply has their own hypocrisy as to which animal to consider "sacred."

Yep.

Then there's the people who eat these creatures but think animal testing is cruel.

Thats why I dont call myself vegan per se. Because I dont have a rational argument against animal testing. Thats the unavoidable necessary harm. Unfortunately.

True, at least there's a justification for it, as sad as it is.

Edit: My post was more directed at people who are sickened by that but don't care about the completely unnecessary suffering.

We got a little dog for my kid a few years back and she loved it, but it was a little too aggressive and nipped her. So my in-laws said they would take it and use it for security. I went to visit them a few weeks later and the dog was gone...nobody seemed to know where it went. I found out later FIL sold it, and the neighbors killed it and ate it...probably having a good laugh at how meaty the foreigner's dog was. I haven't talked to FIL since then and he's no longer welcome in my house. RIP "Baby Dog" :(

You're father in law sold your dog for food? Unbelievable.

thats pretty much a sentiment all over asia even in the developed parts. they love their expensive western breed dogs but domestic asian dogs havent been bred to have those nice obedient qualities so people dont think highly of them or that they are stupid because they still act wild even when you train them and treat them very well.

i remember reading about a police force in california that tried to train korean jindos for police work and they had to abandon the project because no matter how well trained they appeared it was a coin toss to whether they would stick with their training or totally disregard it. i honestly think it would be best just to let them go extinct rather than have idiots chain them up outside.

I adopted one a year ago from an animal rescue that takes in dogs from asia. They rescued him roaming around the streets in Thailand and are very common dogs there. Hes smarter than my German Shepherd and they have been acting like jerks to each other

He likely knew what would happen to the poor dog, but it's not as blatant as it sounds. Everyone deludes themselves here to reality. "Oh, the dog got eaten? I had no idea that would happen."

I think a really delicious dog for eating could be bred.

Wouldn't take that long to breed them into the super submissive house pets we have in the west and has been done.

The Jindo, as far as I'm aware, is only a super small percentage of the wild dog population in Korea and is the product of very little human interaction in their breeding.

Dog meat trade is more of a neighbor to neighbor deal. Their might be some small markets but it's way up in the mountain regions.

And if you wanna count consumption:

South Korea 2.5 million > Philippines 500k

SK has only half the Philippines population.

dogs that look like that are common all over asia. the nureongi looks like that as well only the body is more yellow. its not really about smart but predictibility of their behavior that is the problem. your dog might be an exception but unlike western dogs these dogs mostly lack any breeding for good characteristics, behavior and temperments. sometimes they listen and sometimes they dont. they might be friendly to your family but bite everyone else. theyre behavior and temperment isnt really 100 percent predictable or safe to keep as a family pet so often people tie them up outside as a guard dog. but its a pitiful life living on a few feet of chain.

you sound defensive. as the other guy said he only saw 7 dogs. in this picture there is one dog. the whole problem is that it is such a small back hole operation that its unsafe and rife with animal cruelty whereas the dogs in korea are farmed so aint no one got time to tie up individual dogs. the dogs in philippines are plucked off the street and thats why theyre tied up like that. theyre feral and dangerous and probably have disease so to prevent bites and scratches thats what they do.

go look it up yourself it is not a photoshop.
