Does Sterling get the automatic rematch?

Who the fuck was touting Sterling as the best bw of all time other than Sterling himself? Neck Tats and Dillashaw in their primes would have beaten him easily. Prime Cruz would have embarrassed the shit out of him.

And lol at the idea of him being "dominant".

He squeaked past Yan, who had dominated him in the first fight before the DQ; beat out of prime, one armed TJ; and squeaked by Cejudo, who had been sitting out for 3 years and had clearly lost a few steps.

So, two of his three title defenses were via close split decisions, and the other was against a guy who couldn't use one arm. Lol. That's probably the least dominant title run I've ever heard of.
I know
But it was in ALL the promos- like he was one win away from the record on title defenses , fought “the best in the world and won” etc
The hype was pretty bad

Haha, well, I wasn't including people who don't even have a title defense.

If I was though, then good point, Eddie would probably no.1 least dominant. At least most other champs who didn't defend once at least didn't get embarrassed like he did.

he would be 2nd only to GDR

Sounds like no. Dana pretty much shit on the idea and Aljo is moving up.

Teh UFC promos and most of this forum
Iirc 70% said he was winning by sub in the fight , in the Sherdog poll
Which includes me

Some one pull up that preflight poll
I don’t have the technical skills lol

Hell no he wont, dude is not in that Dana white privilege group.

Really hope I’m wrong, but my gut tells me they’re going to slot chito in for the next crack at the belt just because Sean has been throwing that idea out there. What little faith in the integrity of the ufc I have left, will mostly be gone if they make that fight tbh

Seems like every time a champ loses they run it back these days
They were touting Sterling as the “ best bw of all time “ and “ dominant champion “
He was talking about moving up- why would volk take that fight now?
He got tko’d- does that factor in?
So does he go to the back of the line or get that rematch?

Rd2 planked after thr most bogus mma run. Who fakes and wins a title? Nobody in wmma would fo that. He belongs on thr preliminaries or a fight Night.

Are you mad? Cory is injured. Aljo got planked.

Hell no. Generally, they should almost never happen. But they've done so many now people use it as precedent for even more rematches.

The UFC would be idiotic to do that. O'Malley is the most marketable guy in the division, and arguably in the sport right now, other than Conor.

They are likely to make the rematch with Chito, have Merab/Cejudo go against each other, hope Cejudo takes out Merab, and make Sandhagen fight someone that can justify giving him a shot with a win next.

Yup. Same reason Aldo never got an auto rematch despite literally every champ who lost getting one at that time even if they were completely thrashed.

This is literally the Conor-Aldo sequel only with different names involved. Unfortunately Conor is still around and now Ian Garry's another obvious Conor ripoff so now we've got three times as much crap to endure.

I see the analogy, but comparing Aldo with Aljo is a bit much. That Aldo didn't get a rematch was a travesty. That Aljo don't get one is not really that alarming. He had a close decision with Yan, another close one with Cejudo, and a dominant win against an injured TJ. Not bad, but Aldo was on a totally other level.

Only time an instant rematch makes sense is if there's a controversial decision (ex. Shogun vs Machida)

They need to stop this non sense where you have to beat the champ twice. Even the Edward's/Usman one was dumb to me. Usman should've won 1 fight and then challenged for the title. These rematches keeps the division in limbo for a full year.

This is my opinion as well. I don't like instant rematches for dethroned champs unless there is some kind of legitimate controversy from the first fight: a closely-contested and super contentious Split Decision, blatant fouls or bad officiating affecting the course of the fight, etc. I don't care how dominant the champ previously was. They could be a 30-0 P4P GOAT with 12 title defenses for all I care, if they get defeated they go back into the queue to work their way back to their title with the rest of the contenders. Beat a Top 5ish guy or two and earn your strap back, champ. I also don't care how much of a "fluke" the fanbase thinks the outcome was or how it was all based on a lucky shot, bad weight cut, or whatever else. Doesn't matter if the champ beats the challenger nine times out of ten: welcome to the one-in-ten timeline. It shouldn't be necessary to defeat every champ twice right away before you even begin building your own legacy as a titleholder and it fucks over the rest of the contenders in the meantime.

You can’t be serious.

Per Sherdog, every champion deserves an immediate rematch when they lose, no matter what...... so yes.
