Does cold water immersion after a workout hurt gains?

I've read that ice baths are a benefit to athletes who need to train their skills frequently, but detrimental to muscle growth. I am not a scientist.
If an athlete wants to limit hypertrophy, stay the same size, and this is what cold water immersion does, it could be helpful for some.
 
I believe it's useful if you're competing or training skill and need to be recovered in time for the next competition/skill sessíon, but it inhibits muscle growth by reducing its inflammation pathway.
