I also enjoy smoking weed while sleep deprived
Those were hockey gloves lolYes and it absolutely affects grappling. Even the ones Bruce Lee wore
Lol that's good tooat first when I saw your post I was like 'ahhh, he's saying Joe is baked' lol
then realised you meant these were the gloves he was suggesting
So I got two laughs out of it lol
he has been talking about gloves with leather coverings on the fingertips for a while, it wasnt only in the Jiri one.Lol ppl come on. Joe Rogan was talking that in his podcast with Jiri Prochakza... He was saying some things that he knew didn't make sense only to see how Jiri would counter that. He was trying, in a very good and respectful way, actually, to come up with points he didn't necessarily think made much sense... And he was trying to make those points convincing so the Jiri podcast would flow even better, since Jiri's logic is funny and at the same time very sensible.
Basically, a way to make Jiri Prochazka to genuinely speak more about his fighting ideas, fighting vision in a..... Podcast like way, in which you aren't being asked like in an interview, but having a conversation with a friend trying to convince him that this isn't so much sensible, which is more natural, flows more naturally...
Silly ppl take everything so literally these days.....
Joe is just getting old lol
If you cover the fingertips and limit the individual motion of the fingers doesn't that have a large impact on grappling? I'm not a grappler but it seems like trying to grapple with a claw instead of individual digits would be quite a hindranceThey should make a glove that has like a mitten style finger cover at the fingertips but with the palm still exposed and allows the hand to bend. Basically the same UFC glove but it extends to cover over the finger tips.
all gloves affect grapplingYes and it absolutely affects grappling. Even the ones Bruce Lee wore
yeah not sure why that design was never used... i get why they might have delayed when jones was fighting more often, but since his semi-retirement it should be a non-issueThere is a simple solution that was created before I even started watching the sport. PRIDE gloves keep the fingers curled down so moments like Jon/more recently Song can't stick their fingers out when measuring distance.
While grappling, there is no reason to ever have your fingers stretched all the way out, anyone saying "blade the hand to lock the choke" is a noob. While striking, same thing, no reason to ever have your fingers out unless you're fishing for an "accidental" poke.

I don’t think latex gloves change things that much. Probably better gripall gloves affect grappling
There are plenty of reasons to open your hands that can lead to an eye poke. Like whe you try to grab the wrist, to get in a thai clinch, to parry a punch or to post with your palm.Rules just need to be inforced. There’s no reason to be reaching out with your fingers pointing at all. The gloves aren’t the problem
I think that’s very much true. They always say to keep your fingers pointed upwards or to make a fist, but try that with handwraps and gloves on (not the fist making).Joe probably thinks of something like mma training gloves. The idea is that the 4 fingers are covered by a single piece so one finger cannot get into an eye socket. That makes sense.

Also the current gloves make things worse because they block the wrist and finger extensions.
The refs always say to the figters to keep their fingers pointed upward if their hands are open. But the gloves make it very difficult.
