there was never really a time line for them to fight, Jones had beaten gane and had his sights set on the stipe fight for legacy then retirement. Aspinall was not even in the picture yet when jones won the title. Yes he honey dicked and dragged the whole thing out way longer than need be, but that fight was always a bonus +1 thing for him. Jones laid his game out flat and the general mma population should have expected him to retire after stipe.

Stipe fight didn't happen. New interim. Division moves on to unify the belt. That's the only rational position one could have if you're not a Jones nuthugger.

Jones fought Stipe in Nov and then didnt retire till June the next year, fuck him.

He should have called it in the octogon right there, i agree. I hate that he dragged it out. I think he did it to fuck tom over. Which I'm indifferent about, because the UFC could have put a stop to it whenever. but Ill always say that jones didn't need to fight tom to prove anything to anyone. his career was very very long. I was still in high school when jones debuted, I'll be 35 this year. it was over half my life ago.

Who in MMA fought from 2008 - 2024 without taking a single defeat?
 
How can you feel sorry for him? Eye pokes are a job site hazard when you're an MMA fighter. The thing that annoys me is the way Tom and his fans are acting, they'd have you believe that was the worst eye poke in the history of MMA, but the reality is it simply wasn't that bad at all compared to others we've seen. He's so very obviously embellishing the injury and if you can't see that, I don't know what to say. The ringside physician and the doctor post fight both essentially said he was fine. The ringside physician told him he could continue fighting, but now in some weird turn of events, for the first time in MMA history, Tom and his fans say " the ringside physician doesn't know what he's doing and Tom was right" Give me a fucking break.

His unwillingness to take the 5 mins to recover, his hour long documentary at the hospital where it shows he can see just fine out of his eyes, him and his dad persuading the doctor to tell them it's worse then it is, Tom caught in 4K acting like his eye hurts then peeking to make sure they're still filming, his dad initially acting like Tom was about to lose an eye. Releasing a sketchy bullet-point doctor's note of his visits to 10 different doctors in search of one that would corroborate his claims which leads to them diagnosing him with an extremely rare disease because his claims are so ridiculous and nothing logically explains them. And it just keeps going, they don't stop. It's been 3 months and Tom is still making a fool of himself.

Tom and his Dad are both gigantic muppets. They deserve all the hate.

TL/DR but obviously we all are pullin for our man Big Tom who was just trying to get the division back on track, before falling victim to a devious violation of the unified rules
