Does anyone else hate Chinese food?

this thread reminds me of this scene from no reservations where an american family and a chinese family sitting next to each other in the same restaurant are eating very different things.

This is hilarious to me, because I've actually had a Chinese waitress become shocked and pleasantly surprised when I (big tall white guy) ordered family style for the table and requested a pan fried live whole fish with ginger / scallions, Chinese greens and bok choy, salty fish fried rice, and a simple soup.

She literally did a double take and then said I ordered like a Chinese person.

Bingo! Would not eat...

Hated it as a kid, love it as an adult but acknowledge it's absolute garbage quality and terrible for you. If I get it, it's pretty much going to be the only thing I'm going to eat for the day.

i haven't tried the dim sum in seattle yet.. but why bother when vancouver is so close..

although.. i still haven't found a decent burger in seattle.. any recs?

Nice! You made the move... How are you liking Seattle so far?

Burger places?

1. Brave Horse. Perhaps the best Burger in the entire world. It's a Tom Douglas spot.

2. Red Mill. A little low rent and outside of downtown proper, but worth the drive.

3. Two Bells. Very low rent... But burgers are known from coast to cost.

Enjoy!

What else is there? I've had pizza and lasagna. Still same ingredients.

You need to go to a DECENT Italian then.

Risottos, all sorts of fish and meat dishes, soups, roasts, stews. In any half decent Italian cookbook the pasta and pizza section is just part of the book.

Peking duck (done well) is one of my top 5 dishes. That said, I've had some terrible versions of it as well.

The difference is immense and like comparing Taco Bell to authentic Mexican cuisine.

Proper good quality fresh Mexican food is outstanding. Latin food in general.

My rule of thumb for Taquerias is to look for Caveza and Lengua on the menu.

I don't personally eat brain or tongue, but it's a great sign that the food is hardcore authentic. I usually go with al pastor, carnitas, or chorizo but you know when you see Caveza and Lengua on the menu it's not gringo food.

I have tried monkey brains before in Brazil, but refused the rest including mountain oysters and bull balls too.

Lol everyone in here complaining probably eat scrubby pleb food.

Eat REAL Chinese and REAL Italian FFS. It's delicious.

/ end thread...

On that note, I don't understand why Chinese people don't open up authentic restaurants more. Not everyone will love it but more will than the typical Americanized shit. Society has changed. People appreciate quality ingredients more than a quick fast food sugar or salt/ msg rush.

By the way, anyone else having a bitch of a time typing on this forum with a samsung galaxy?

You want a cookie?

I know that there's a massive difference between American Chinese food, and REAL Chinese food. I guess I should have specified.

I don't know the difference.... but most Chinese restaurants around me are pretty mediocre... but one in particular is just outstanding! I'm not sure if that is the difference between "Americanized" vs. "Real"... or if the people who run it are just better chefs and/or use better ingredients. I do know that the people who work there barely speak English but I'm not sure that means anything.

Pass. I went on a date to Chinatown here in Seattle and the girl brought me to a Dim Sum place... Her idea as I'd never had it. They brought around Chicken Feet and these little things that had transluscent wrapping that I couldn't identify. Ended up eating a few Saltines, had some tea and got the fuck out of there as soon as I could to grab a Cheeseburger in P-square.

Maybe I just had a bad Dim Sum experience, but I'll probably never know... Not planning on trying it again.

Lol chicken feet on your first go is pretty rough. It's like going to the range for the first time and someone giving you a 500 S&W magnum to shoot. And seriously, even Chinese people don't eat chicken feet, it's only the 85 year old grandmas who get them to remind themselves of what's it's like back in to old country when meat was a scarcity.
