This.. least talented people in a restaurant. They carry plates back and forth and wipe down a table. They rarely help with any prep or cleanup. And they make more than anyone there when its busy
I'm not gonna say you have to be super talented to be a waiter, or that it is insanely hard.
Ive done it all in the service industry. It's not the least skilled job. The hostess is. You just sit people down and manage where people sit so waiters dont get overwhelmed.
Prep cooks and bussers also require less skill and is alot less stressful. Same with the food expo(s). Depending on where you're working and what station, the line cooking jobs are easier than waiting. Hell, the floor manager generally doesnt do much at all.
Waiting you're walking around all day to the point where your ass is chafed, and mentally you get worked trying to keep everyone's demands and get it sorted in a timely manner. You've also got to be fast at entering the orders in a computer and make sure you dont make any mistakes. Most of the computer systems arent exactly programmed to where it's super easy to do. On top of that you have to be efficient with your trips around the restaurant and be smart enough to make each walk around you do efficient as possible.. keep everyone's water, tea, sodas full.. sensible enough to know when you need to run the food
Its not as easy as alot of people think, especially if you're working somewhere that's understaffed or mis managed, which alot of places are. Its something you should go do for a month or two if you really have that attitude that it's a cakewalk.
But no, it isnt super hard work. 200 bucks for a 10 hour shift is fair pay for what you're doing.. and in my experience that's about what you make on average. Higher end places you'll make a bit more.
That's the average, you'll have nights were you go home with 40 bucks and nights where you make 300.
I prefer to cook. But I've been doing it for a long time and have gotten to where I get a high hourly pay and wont work for shit money
