Growing up, I had a cockatiel. His name was Larry Bird.
Back in April we went to a birds of prey conservation place nearby. Kind of pushed my wife to come along. Spent most of the day flying hawks, owls and eagles.
Probably the most fun we've had out together in ages. Great day despite it raining.

Had to get rid of him because he could mimic the sound of the coffee maker and the microwave. If that's true that's bloody hilarious. Great name for a pet bird too

My parents kept getting woken up in the middle of the night thinking the house was going to catch fire.
Most of the time I like birds.
With that said there are a great many wood peckers that live in the area. Very beautiful birds to look at, but once a wood pecker begins drilling away on the house or a drain pipe, it can be quite loud and annoying.
He would also call out "pretty bird" and whistle while rubbing his private area on the corner of his cage.Hahahahaha! Man this story keeps getting better and better. Larry sounds like a legend. I'm literally laughing my ass of here. It must've been hard to give him away I imagine.

With that said, giving him up was pretty easy. My mom worked with an older gentleman that had two cockatiels. Sadly, one passed away (they have a long lifespan). So, the female of the pair was very depressed. My mom gave this gentleman Larry.
The female of the pair took a shine to Larry and they lived quite a few years together.
I think they're awesome.
I put out a lot of food for them and get quite a few varieties in my garden. Part of the appeal is the diversity so I can't say I have a favourite species, but one of the most utterly adorable are the long-tailed tits.
They're tiny little things, and turn up in family groups of around 10, often with a few random other small birds who've joined the gang.
