do you consider the oblique kick dirty?

Thanks. That makes one, if a kick thrown by Jones was indeed the cause of Jackson's injury. Was he on crutches after the fight? If so, I would probably believe him.

I've had ACL reconstruction surgery myself, so I suppose I should be extra-sensitive to the "potential for injury" of a "devastating" kick thrown at the knee. But this fear of knees getting blown out backward appears irrational when nobody's ever seen it happen.

one what? Rampage retired because he cant fight anymore due to this knee injury?

well, its legal.

You do realise that knees don't always just explode right?
Thing bend, stretch and tear, particularly when people stomp them in the wrong direction. Just because a guy doesn't collapse on the floor doesn't mean he's not got serious damage. Do the guys you train with stomp knees? ACL surgery? Coincidence?
Have you've ever done BJJ? When guys bang joints the wrong way it's called "spazzing out", and I know high level guys that wont train with guys like that because it's so easy to fuck something up.
But like I say, go train with guys that fight to pay the bills and see how they react when you stomp on their knees. If there's no problem why would they be upset?

Not at all. I've been oblique kicked more than enough times to my front knee.
Then again my stance is a rear weight bias stance. As my weight isn't on the front foot like the majority of people out there so the risk of getting injury is rather low.

And no, i wouldn't use Rampage's rambling tbh. He is known to be a cry baby so any complaints from him is rather moot.

It doesn't bother me. If someone was going full bore on me in sparring and trying to stomp through my knee, I'd probably get upset, or just respond in kind and try to knock them out. But in a fight I see no problem, and it never bothers me when it's thrown lightly in sparring, and I've had plenty of people teep/oblique kick me right above the knee. I don't stand with my legs locked out and my weight on my front foot, so I don't see the danger in it. It does help control distance and stop momentum though, I so I definitely see the utility.

See that's my problem with it, if I have a bent knee chances are nothing will happen, it will have the same effect as a teep to the thigh, stopping fwd motion. I have no problem with teeps to the thigh, but the intention of these knee stomps is to fuck somebodys knee joint. If I do mess up and put all my weight on my front leg, should I get my knee knees fucked up as punishment?
I fight ammy, so I don't get paid to fight I do it for fun. If I get knocked out, break my nose, break a rib, I can still go to work Monday. Fuck my knees up and the mortgage dosnt get paid. That's why these stomps are fucking shady.

Nuke, as interesting as your 6 months of experience is, with the intensity that you spar at I wouldnt worry about it.

This is what I meant by "irrational".

I totally get why you're not into them. It just doesn't bother me.

Yeah Nuke, Im sure you started sparring with bad intentions just when you set all your videos to private.... Lol

I'd set my shit to private too if the same dopes came into my thread time after time to tell me the same shit I didn't need to hear. You make fun of Nuke the way I bet you make fun of Twilight to your friends. You pretend like it's laughable, but secretly, you can't stop thinking about Edward's big strong arms around you.

What's that? All I hear is, "No, Jacob. I love Edward! You can't... Oh. Oh!"

First off, can we stop using the term "oblique kick"? It is the most obtuse name ever.

It's a kick to the knee. You can front kick to the knee, you can side thrust kick to the knee, you can roundhouse...etc. Kicks aren't named for what they look like from someone else's view, they're named for what they do.

The whole debate about what is fair or dirty in a sport where you are encouraged to hurt fellow human beings is just...how can we decide? In a perfect world, I think we want fights to end with guys hurt as little as possible. No one wants people to be hurt for the rest of their life. But getting knocked out can screw you up. Accidents happen...a long lasting injury is something you risk.

I suppose the solution is to minmize that risk. A good kick to the knee could screw you up for a long time. Knee injuries are like that. If it's an easy way to end a fight and hurts a guy for a long time, it should probably be taken out.

That said, I don't think many fighters know how to kick the knee well enough to cause damage...after all, how many guys have been screwed up by it? Front kicks don't work, and lots of guys aren't good at side kicks.

This is a very good point, and something to keep in mind when discussing how many fighters have been injured from this kick. Sure, there haven't been many injuries from it, the only one I know of is possibly Rampage (I know people don't put too much stock in his word, but in this case I'm inclined to believe him, since he did need knee surgery a few months after the Jones fight, where he got kicked in the knee repeatedly). But how many fighters use this technique consistently? Jon Jones is the only guy I've seen who uses it frequently, and he only started using it a couple fights ago. Anderson Silva has used it here and there but it doesn't seem to be one of his main weapons.

That's a fair comment, if it doesn't bother you and you don't bother others with it, no problem.

Your videos were starting to look pretty good, lots of progression I thought. It's pretty fucking annoying though when Nuke keeps chiming in with the full weight of his 6months of training behind him. Most people comment on here from experiences, dude just spouts buzz words that he heard from other people, footwork, positioning, distance, whomp, whomp, whomp. Then puts up videos of him looking very much like a beginner, not terrible, but clearly showing he doesn't fully understand the catchphrases he's preaching yet.

In theory, I don't have a problem with them. In practice, they make me nervous.

If you use them in sparring, I'll never say anything but I'll start going out my way to avoid you.

In professional fights - until it's illegal, it's fair play. But I'm not a pro fighter so it's easy to say.

*facepalm*
I'm outta here. This is about to get into one of those bitch fest again.
