    Serious question.

The guy has followed UFC since the beginning, started working for the UFC in 1996 so he's been to more live UFC's than almost anyone, he's been around fighters for that long and been on the inside of the sport.

Although he's never competed in MMA, he's competed in karate tournaments and has trained BJJ, muay thai and MMA for decades so he's knowledgable on a lot of MMA technique and strategy.

Looking at it on paper, you'd think it'd be a no brainer. You'd think "of course this guy is an expert, how could he not be?"

But it seems like he doesn't get that respect from the fans, who often look at him as a joke. And not without good reason - he's given some of the worst MMA takes in the history of the sport (Ronda once ever athlete who could beat 50% of the mens division, welcome to the Machida era, etc).

What say you, does Rogan qualify as one of MMA's leading experts?

He repeatedly claimed Rousey was a world-class elite striker. So no. The weed has frazzled his mind.

He is knowledgeable but "One of" prolly not - man is too all over the place and to excel you need focus.

Only 50 informally educated people on the planet would beat Rogan in MMA trivia.

He's seen and called hundreds of UFC fights. Idk if he's fits the description on an expert but pretty sure he has great amount of knowledge and you can learn a thing or two by listening on some of his takes. Of course he's not perfect and has showed bias in previous and recent fights but he definitely has influenced a lot of fans over the years regarding MMA knowledge and understanding.

He's been around for so long he knows a lot of detail most don't. But he's also a bro, and a bro comes with the science and hype. Rogan's basically a lifelong fan who's comedy and martial arts experience makes him a Hollywood-type colorful personality. Almost like a court jester. A jacked one, who could fold the King in half.

But top class coaches are the experts. And some fighters who can look at the sport outside of themselves.

Joe is not very knowledgeable/talented at anything really, but he's remarkably successful.

His comedy was pretty mediocre, but he did a great job of paying the bills with his standup and tv gigs.

His MMA knowledge is pretty abysmal, considering the time/exposure he's had, but he's made a great living off of screaming "Oh!!!" and other nonsense to us at home.

His podcast insights are basically the equivalent of a teenager's miseducated ramblings, and yet he's over on Spotify making hundreds of millions.

No. There are dozens if not hundreds of Sherdoggers who have far more knowledge than him.

He’s knowledgeable of the history and the fighters but he’s just above average when it comes to actual technical knowledge

I think he knows a lot, especially when it comes to the ground game, he will often detail what fighters need to do to get out of a tough spot or to lock in the sub

He is by far one of the most experienced in MMA knowledge. As for an expert he certainly is one but I would say those that compete at the highest level have a different type of knowledge.

As for his hottakes he gets a lot of flack for things he says to hype a fighter or fight. He is a commentator but also part of the show. Sometimes the things he says are heavily exaggerated but those moments are usually hype not detailed analysis.

Never considered Joe an expert, he's more of a superfan that got a job.

Depending on the situation he is oft spot on and oft atrocious.

Not that I don't see similar in many, many other orgs. UFC is basically a cookie cutter blue print for 90% of Orgs. Many have their "Joe" or their "Buffer". Basically mimicked mannerisms and vocalizations.
