What logic? Your claim that humans are a blank slate has been disproven, we know humans are born with certain inclinations, and the overwhelming majority of researchers have settled on interaction theories: being that genes interact with the environment to carve out our paths.

I would argue that being born with a lack of empathy doesn't mean you will become an evil person though, there are many people who have those traits that perform positive roles within society. There are environmental elements at play.

I always thought the research work about people born with low resting heart rates being more likely to be serial killers interesting. I don't know how good the science is with that, but I recall one TV show highlighted how a researcher found those born with low resting heart rates were more likely to be killers. The show went on to point out that the researcher was born with a low heart resting rate himself yet has never show any tendencies toward being a cold blooded killer.

My father was born with a low resting heart rate yet he only been a wonderful guy...at least I believe so. the moon has been full these past few days. As far as I know he hasn't been stalking his neighbors.

Nothing in psychology is “proven”. That’s why nobody regards it as real science. Nothing about the human condition is difficult to understand. You just need to learn how to see beyond the theatre, of which you appear to be a fine, fine, thespian!

personally, i don't think so. i think very young humans, even weeks old, can become incredibly angry and mean people due to terrible upbringings. i don't think it's genes-alone. i think it's pretty much 100% nurture, aside from mental or physical conditions from birth.

No way dude. If you hung out at preschool for a month straight I guarantee you your eyes would be wide open by the end of it. I know couples....good people...who have good kids and not so nice kids....and they swear along with me they were just born like that.

Absolutely comes down to EQ, innate selfishness or lack thereof, and just general disposition. Im not discounting nurture at all either. But genetics is a HUGE factor here.


As an example...say your kid is particularly selfish or has a mean disposition.....punishment and discipline will instill rage and other negative thoughts along the way that will shape that child along the way.

Genetics is the primary driver of everything. Attachment theory certainly applies though which would be environmental. When an infant doesn’t make secure attachments and the genetics are out of whack, that kid is gonna be troubled. All expecting parents need to be educated on attachment theory imo. Would greatly reduce the burden of mental illnesses imo
