The physical disparity between Overeem and MM is huge too.

Do you not watch the lower weight class men?

Terrible comparison, both are extremely skilled athletic fighters, only difference is size.

I actually really like the lower weight classes.

Is this thread in response to Holm vs Shevchenko? Did OP feel this way about Barboza vs Melendez? Did he not appreciate that fight as well?

As if this poll isn't slanted by being made on the night of a slow paced women's fight.

If you had asked this on the night Holly whooped Ronda, you'd be laughed out of the park.

...or was the interest there just because people were so sick of Ronda's delusional shit about being able to beat up male fighters. "Beating Cain under the right circumstances" etc and were just loving her getting her mouth shut by Holly?

Fair point, not sure I agree it's a bad comparison, however.
IMO the difference between men and women fighting IS size. Size of potential muscle mass, really.

I suppose I just can't understand how somebody who likes fighting cannot like... Well... Fighting.
As long as it's a comparable matchup.

I can even actually see the argument about not liking to see women fight. After all, it's not 'ladylike'. Being a bird myself, fuck ladylike.
It's just the physical comparison issue I can't wrap my head around.

Size, speed, strength, skill, usually experience. There's a very good reason that men and women aren't allowed to compete in ANY serious athletic competition.

I am not saying there are no good women's fights... they are just a very small minority of them.

I don't enjoy women's fights for the same reason I wouldn't enjoy watching 10 year old boys fight.

if it's a good fight it's a good fight and i'm happy to see it but i am not that interested in following it/don't tend to get excited by it

it's getting a bit better - it's not misogyny or anything it's just a shallower and less developed talent pool at this stage. i look forward to it getting better

I just skip all the ladies fights.

All respect and props to them for that they do; but as a grown ass man am I really going to be rooting for girls to beat each other up? I think (possibly) the people on here who like wmma are the younger guys who look at the women as older and stronger so have a different perspective and don't have a paternalistic instinct so much. I also worry slightly about what impact this will have on domestic violence for the generation who are growing up now and getting desensitized to seeing bloodied women as a normal thing.

nope when the women fights come up I go take a 20 min shit.

No

It's pathetic
And was rigged for ronda

I just wanted to say thanks also to @NinjaNiK , your AV is terrific and a really good progession from your last few. Gnarly man!

I love big cats.

Thank you as well, and I am also a lover of Big Cats <7>

Yep I enjoy it, plenty of great fights from the women.

I don't like watching women get punched in the face. I don't like it when they get cuts. I don't hate on their skill set, or their right to fight and make a living though.

I respect them as fighters and and appreciate the fights... while I also often find myself admiring them aesthetically.

Well the truth is just like with all sports WMMA is simply a slower, less powerful and less athletic version of the men's MMA.

There is simply no reason to watch it other then wanting to watch the "female version" of the sport.

Just imagine replacing their heads with a man's head while they are fighting and try to convince yourself if the fights are worth watching.

Comparing it to the men's division is the equivalent of saying the lightweight division sucks because heavyweights would maul them. They're different divisions, they are split up for a reason. What matters is relativity. The women's 135 can be exciting without needing to be better athletically than the men's 135, for the same reason flyweight can be great even if Nick Diaz probably took their lunch money in school. By your argument, you would only watch heavyweight or light heavyweight because they represent the biggest and baddest gorillas in the jungle.

If you can watch multiple men's divisions and respect the weight class separations, then you can watch the women and respect the sex separations without complaining that the men are more athletic or more powerful. What makes the UFC great is finding out who the best in the world are in their respective divisions. It's about relativity. Yes, maybe joe-blow unranked bellator fighter can dominate a highly-respected female fighter. Who cares? Who cares any more than saying Cain can kill Mighty Mouse? All I care about is how good are you respective to your peers. Joanna vs. Claudia II was outstanding and full of tension, because you knew you were watching the two best in the division going at it, both trying to impose polar opposite gameplans. If you follow the division like any other division and come to know the fighters, it can be just as enjoyable as the other divisions.

Women are half the population in the world. If you're not excited to know who the best in the world are for half the population on Earth, then you're selling yourself short of some great fights, narratives, personalities and expressions of technical abilities.

Wmma has come a long way and I enjoy watching it continue to evolve.
Recently wmma has been more interesting to me then the mens.

If you go in with the understanding that it's completely inferior to MMA -- always has been and always will be -- then you can appreciate it for what it is; a fledgling sport somewhere in between WNBA and women's tennis in terms of skill. It's more or less an appetizer to men's MMA.
