Do you actually believe this was unintentional?

Cmon, do you actually believe this was unintentional?

It's harder to stay balanced when your arm is extended out while kicking. Gane knew what he was doing, same thing Jon does. He just didn't expect it would be bad enough for the fight to be stopped.

Gane's clean record, even Jones was calling him out

It was intentional. Gane isn’t very good. Hes just better than Tom is all.

Neither a match or make sense for the GOAT

Im with Jim Miller on this, its not unintentional, how intentional it is that they aim for the eye poke? ehhh... god knows, but its no accident, they get told not to do that, thing is, refs let it slide too much.

How did a 4 minute no contest prove that?
Most Aspinall fights end up in 1-2 minutes, going 4:30 minutes with him and winning up to that point has to mean something.

I won't pretend to know that Ciryl Gane was thinking, "ok perfect now I will throw a left kick to get hin to drop his guard to open up an opportunity for my trademark 3 Stooges double eye gouge!!! Muahahaha!!"

But I do see a well established pattern of a fighter who has committed fouls many times who happened to find himself involved in yet another foul.

I won't claim absolute certainty of intent.
But I don't see a man particularly concerned with adhering to the rules.

How many accidents does one person need to have before it becomes their responsibility to be more careful?

I'm not entirely sure that it matters much. If it was intentional, he's a dirty cheater. But even if it wasn't, that was at least the 2nd time he did that flailing swipe at Aspinall's eyes in the fight (maybe the 3rd). If you can't throw a body kick without doing that, maybe MMA isn't your sport.

Agreed! I doubt he was trying to rake Tom's eyes, but he knew having his fingers out there would either prevent Tom from coming forward, or if he did, he'd get poked and then Gane could play innocent.

I can't even believe there are people who think this was remotely unintentional.

It's like running towards someone with a knife and saying oh but I didn't mean to stab them.

Since you cant prove it is or isn't intentional, other posters are right, 1 point deduction for each eye poke confirmed on replay.
Can we apply that all fouls? And should the fight continue after that?

Agree above, they just need to start deducting a point every single time a eye poke happens. Also fix the fucking gloves.

This shit has been going on for WAY too long, and has ruined a shit ton of fights over the years, as well as fucked up many fighters eyes.

Yes... he was kicking. Also his palm was vertically raised, not horizontally. Cormier and others do stick their fingers horizontally, like they want to stab the eyes, which here is not the case. This was an accidental eye poke.
Oh yes fingers right to the eye unintentionally lol
