Do people really give Dricus a chance, or are they just hating on izzy?

Wut DDP style is nothing like Sttickland...
They both bring pressure & both stand & bang. DDP will bang with Izzy & bring pressure no doubt. I didn't say DDP & Strickland had the same styles but I said their styles are similar... especially when matched up vs Izzy.

I just not see any realistic way for dricus to beat Izzy here. Izzy has amazing TDD and has never been submitted. Izzy has perfect defence and is very elusive. And, of course, Dricus comes forward swinging wide open with his chin in the air, which is the perfect way to get yourself killed against a counter-puncher and sniper like Izzy.
Well.... Let's take a look at a few facts shall we?

Dricus du Plessis :
21 and 2 in MMA.
Current on a 9 fight win streak
UFC results : 7 fights 7 wins (5 of them by stoppage)
Unbeaten for almost 6 years
Current UFC Middleweight Champion

Israel Adesanya :
- Lost 2 of his last 3 fights, KOd in one of them and very nearly KOd in tbe other by someone regarded as a point fighter.
- Has lost 50% more MMA fights than du Plessis
- Got thoroughly dominated in his last fight and mentally he couldn't even handle taking questions at the post fight presser which isn't really a sign of a mentally tough and resilient fighter.

Hope it's an epic contest. The current betting odds have it very very close indeed,, almost a pick 'em.

I think whoever has the better fight gameplan will win this title fight.

I think DDP's best shot is if he rocks Izzy early on similar to Strickland. If Izzy can find his range and get into the groove DDP will get taken out.

No, i don't Dricus a chance. Adesanya have looked unbeatable as of late.

Not an Izzy hater. Dricus always has a chance with that berzerker rush style and physicality, although he can just as easy get chewed up in the meat grinder in this fight.

I have never been impressed with DDP. He looks like an old man that has had multiple knee/hip surgeries. But he keeps fucking winning, and it's hard to argue with his results.

Realistically I think Izzy should win, but we're talking about a guy that went out and shit the bed against a guy he matches up even better with on paper in jab-spar machine Strickland, so who knows where he's at. DDP at least has threats with the amount of power he has. I'll probably pick Izzy and just hope the Strickland fight was a one-off lapse of everything, but he might just be completely over it at this point and just collecting paychecks, hard to tell.

He lost to a guy who could check his leg kicks and has a jab.
Yes, of course DDP has a serious chance. Probably even the favorite if he has some game plan to stifle the leg kicks because Izzy sure as shit does not look the same in any fight where the opponent checked them.

You’re only as good as your last fight on Sherdog.

Its Both, i dont wanna trigger nobody but ill say the reason people jumped on the poatan banwagon so quickly was
a good chunk of fans are super turned off by a person like izzy. hes too flashy...... so they want izzy to get broken and
to get humbled. My theory is people didnt want another anderson silva type style they wanted a
good ole BLAND stand and bang/ ground and pound champion. but that didnt happen.

lastly People were rooting for strickland before the bout so most the people sayings hes gonna lose, has nothing to do with people
caring to see where his heads at. in australia you had a lot of people wanting izzy to lose to strickland.
from the disgusting false dog allegations, the chineese allegations, the bigger pec steroid allegations, its always
drama created by the haters to get izzy of his track.

even if DDP gets the job done he will not last as a champ as he has too many flaws. once hes figured out
hes DONE.

well if you use mmath with strickland in the middle, it's a no brainer. and we all know that mmath is infallible.

izzy doesn't like pressure

i think he lost to strickland because his shins are like flagpoles. without his leg kick game working his standup falls apart against a competent boxer.

With this fight i have a hard time seeing DDP outclass him for 5 straight rounds like strickland did. He is not as defensively sound. He needs to get izzy out of there early with the grappling.

Adesanya is the one who sat there saying "I can finally close this chapter of my career."
Shut up, we all know he will never face Poatan again nor planned to so they would stay "1-1" in the minds of casuals. Even Izzy diehards admit this. He immediately declined the idea of rematching Poatan.

“If I fight him again, I knock him out, what are they going to say? ‘It’s 3-2. It’s now a best-of-seven.’ I’m 34. I’ve only got some more fights left, why am I going to fight the same guy how many times?”

This is a DIRECT quote by Izzy. Cope harder.
Wasn't he answering a question about an immediate rematch though? All Pereira had to do was beat one maybe two top contenders and he'd have no choice but to rematch

Pereira made the right choice moving to the easier div with all the favorable stylistic matchups though

You dimwit, adesanya has said multiple times, including after Pereira won the LHW title, that he will never fight him again.

Cope harder.

The premise of this thread lol

"Does Dricus really have a chance?!!?"

you tell me lmao

Izzy is 35 with over 100 combat sports fights, and he is financially set. Aka, he is high mileage, past his physical, mental and competitive prime and not as hungry.

He does have elite striking skills, but Sean put forth a decent blueprint for how to beat Izzy utilizing forward pressure. Dricus does have a very different style than Sean and is more hittable, but he is VERY effective as a pressure fighter, or "smother" style fighter.

I tend to lean SLIGHTLY towards the younger hungrier guy in his prime as opposed to the older former champ being gifted ANOTHER title shot coming of an underwhelming loss.

Even if he said that, who gives a shit? Adesanya wouldn't have a choice if Pereira remained in the div and beat a top contender or two

He's not wrong either. He's 35 with close to 30 MMA fights and he'd have to fight and beat Pereira 3 more times for people to give him credit for winning against him head to head.

I never give DDP any chance against anyone and yet he still always wins somehow. Dude always looks like the most bum level fighter ever and then all of a sudden his opponents are dead at his feet. He's an enigma.

And if Izzy had perfect defense, he wouldn't have gotten dropped like a sack of potatoes by The Strickster, and Poatan wouldn't have KOd him standing.
