It's a cover of Sylvester Stallone in a Judge Dredd helmet pretending it's a judge dredd movie, when in fact he's in that costume for 20 mins and then the rest of the movie is a Stallone action flick.

To me this was one of the biggest marketing scams in movie history. I remember thinking even as a kid that this is immoral and switched it off.

How did you people see it?

Yeah sorta, it really felt nothing like Dredd. More like a generic scifi B movie with 10 minutes dredd time.

his costume was very feminine but the over the top dialogue was hilarious. they could have just kept it going.

We got sweet redemption and a fucking awesome movie when they made it properly though.

Do you think Sylvester Stallone had that big of an ego he refused to wear the damn costume? That's what movie buffs claim is the reason. He didn't show his face. Buhu.

The studio wouldn't have wanted his face covered up either. I doubt that's all on Stallone. When you have a recognizable star in the lead, you kind of want them to be recognizable. Otherwise, you may as well cast some nobody for far less money. Then again, without the star, you're probably not getting the big budget either. It's all about the dollars at the end of the day.

So why the fuck make a judge dredd movie?

No doubt. Stallone is mediocre and always has been.

Nobody knew that character in the states.
Someone convinced a studio head that it was cult popular enough to make money, and could make the character big enough for a franchise.

The studio head agreed, and they may even have had a decent movie to start with, but then the money people and studio heads saw the script, thought they knew better, and changed stuff because they thought it would be worth more money.

They made the movie because they thought it would make money. They made the movie worse because they thought it would make more money.

You asked why make a Judge Dredd movie, the answer is literally to make money. They just suck, and did the opposite.

Well, you could ask that about the good one as well, which gave fans everything and still tanked hard at the BO. I don't think the property is as valuable as some want to believe.

To your point, it's not the first movie ever to take great liberties with the source material. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I think Dredd has the same problem as The Punisher. It's true version is too nihilistic for the masses, and fucking with it doesn't please anybody.

I think he's an outstanding orator, which is on full display in Judge Dredd. And those blue contact lenses aren't to be messed with.

Max Von Sydow I never could get. It's not that he's bad but he's just average and incredibly dull.

Yeah it tanked really bad. Do you know if it caught on in the VHS market? Did it ever get a following? as I remember it was quickly forgotten.

it never really caught on later. I am sure it has some small following, all bad movies do, but even Stallone distances himself from this movie

My stand offish buddy frequently used the line: "I am the law" on random occasions. If you wanted to bond with him you just said that and he softened up.
