My dad promised me buy me an Atari when I was a kid. Every year. But didn't get shit. My cousins gave me their NES, which was a HUUUGE part of my childhood. They also gave me their old shoes, backpack, etc... I remember stuffing the shoes with newspaper because my feet were too small for my older cousin's hand me down shoes.

A relative gave me air force 2s which was very random we both wore 9.5 manlet feet.

My grandmother gave me a box monitor.

It took about six months for my cat to discover it.

I woke up one day to the smell of burning.

Little bastard used to sleep on top over it, atop the vents.

RIP cat and nana.

my uncle Cyrus left me a house where everything inside was made of glass and had 13 ghosts inside it

long story short rah digga is a national treasure

My Mom was 2nd youngest of 8 siblings, so I have a lot of older cousins. Most of my toys were hand-me-downs.

Nobody in my extended family was rich though, everyone is just working class.

I got hand-me-downs from my barely middle class cousins, that's how poor we were.

No, I didn't have any rich relatives.

My uncles were 7 and 10 years older than me, so I got their hand-me-downs for a few years until I grew larger than them.

I grew up poor to lower middle class. no one in my family is rich and in fact no one from my family even lives in this country. I would have loved some hand me downs tbh.

My step dad is rich as hell, he lives in his parents old home, they died in the early 90s. He drives an Audi A6, all he does is work and watch golf and football games. He doesn’t spend money on things. We don’t get along, so I don’t expect anything except to be responsible for cleaning out his house when he dies

I grew up poor adjacent. We owned a nice house in a working class neighborhood, and had 2 cars, but luxuries were few and far between compared to some of my peers. Everything was very utilitarian.

So I was always psyched to get hand me downs of name brand stuff. I also got some "fell off the truck" stuff in HS that was pretty clutch.

Unfortunately kids don't understand real estate and retirement savings as wealth. They understand consumer goods, and I grew up feeling poor despite being very fortunate.

Today I try to split the difference with my kids. Every need is met, with some luxuries, and some times they have to do without. They still get hand me downs though. Free stuff is free stuff.

Growing up, my "rich relative" had a job at the water department and did meth, just not as much as the rest of the family.

Nope. We were not poor, but we do have rich relatives, but they were greedy. When my dads uncle died, his kids payed a lawyer to somehow get my dad out of his uncles will. He was supposed to get a piece of land to build a house on. ( his uncle owned a LOT of farm land ) They also use to bug my dad to put new roofs and siding on their "houses" for practically nothing. My dad was too nice, and let them take advantage of him.

Yup, and not only clothes but games and such from my older cousins. I got the original D&D that way
