Did getting knocked out by Martins helped Islam?

Losses are more beneficial, especially early in your career, it causes you to work and improve on the mistakes, fix them. Overall causes to you to a better fighter.

Being undefeated is not telling of fighters worth, strength of competition is.

I wonder how badly Khabib and the Dagestani boys tortured him for bringing them shame.

I mean literal torture.
Khabib probably lost to Tibau (or whatever his name is). He was clearly juicing, HUGE, and is still the only one who did not get taken down by him. Not a big deal—Khabib is still one of the best—but unless the rules favored forward pressure at that time, they probably got it wrong. You could also say that Islam was KO'd because he was recklessly cutting to 155 which I am sure someone else decided for him.

Absolutely. Losing early (like GSP and Mak) is much better than losing late (like Fedor, Anderson, Aldo, Volk)
Absolutely, but Volk beat Diego Lopes some time ago and has a chance not end his career like the rest of the legends you mentioned.

How much is getting KOd helped him to improve coz I get the feeling Islam would have lost the way in between and those are much harder to bounce back from

Yes and also getting knocked down by Renato Moicano is what got him the victory against JDM
