International Did COVID come from a Lab in China? US Energy Dept asserts it was a lab leak [megathread]

Hell yeah man, another victory for you. 10 shit responses in a row got you there.

Cope post after not realizing what was being discussed is something Fat Orange man ever did

Facebook now allows to people discuss if covid is man made or not. Until now, covid from a lab (even unintentionally) was deleted by fact checkers for being fake news

This is why the Social Media Tech guys need to get out of the censoring business.

Intentional or Not... They've been suppressing discussion on a topic that's never been proven 100% one way or the other. Sure, they may claim they were following the "Science"

Science according to who? The US Scientists who were directly involved with the Wuhan labs and didn't want this info to get any traction?

Like it or not... Scientists at NOT the impartial, non-biased entities they used to be... They're being paid by parties with agendas and the quickest way to get that funding pulled is go against their narrative.

This applies to several politically charged issues today.

We've been telling dems to be skeptical of "the science" all year and they call us science deniers. meanwhile we were right.

Now they call us anti vaxxers because we're skeptical of ONE rushed vaccine.

remember that in the future

The past few years makes me wonder if they were ever impartial. Fauci's now getting exposed. MSM got exposed in the last few years mostly because they felt safe pushing the narrative they want because of how polarizing Trump was. They really tried to pass off a lot of nonsense, expecting the public to just eat it up.

It makes me wonder what information I just accepted in the past, before Trump's term, that was BS. It's a good reminder that no matter the position (Media, Doctors, etc.), they're all humans and we all have biases. We are all more likely to go along with an agenda if it will take care of us and our families, financially.

“Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields… ,” Eisenhower warned. “Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity.”

While continuing to respect discovery and scientific research, he said, “We must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.”

I was asking why censorship was bad to understand your own opinions not to gain clarification in general. I’m going to assume you knew that, and that you’re just trying to upkeep the “derp...this is above your head” angle that tracks with 90 percent of your engagements with others on this forum.

Asking the why question is useful for getting to the root of ones opinions. Here, have a look:

No. You brought up Trump and said he did the same. Which he did not.

I forget who I was reading, but they brought up the point that Facebook, Twitter, and Google were never designed to be political engines. It wasn't until there was a big backlash about fake news and Hilldawg losing that people started to look to them critically to do something about it. And because they are for-profit, they scrambled to adhere to the market pressures.

They are ill-equipped to censor speech and be arbiters of truth. But it was us collectively worrying about fake news leading to fraudulent elections that forced them into that role.

2nd concession accepted.

Now get to working on the name of your third account u lame as troll

Yeah, man, good stuff

Why is censorship of the truth despicable and evil but a president who chronically lies not also despicable and evil?

can you at least attempt to answer that question without retreating to your typical “derp, your confused and coping” rebuttal.

It’s a simple question. It’s a good faith question. And you’ve got a shot at giving a good faith answer.

Because 1 is lying and being called on it from every media outlet

While the other is censoring the truth at all levels.

And again, the irony of you continually bringing up Trump's lies in a thread about him speaking honestly and dweebs like you calling him a liar back then. So on this issue he was honest while you were lying.

Shit writes itself

Science is misrepresented by fact-checkers as some monolithic all-knowing entity. The reality is, most of the time articles titled like "Scientists now believe..." or "scientists debunk ___" simply represent the opinions of a single scientist. Mid-last year, the media bombarded with articles about how scientists had proved that Covid had a natural origin. That was never the scientific consensus. That was a single group making a single publication. There were then and are now plenty of reputable, prominent scientists who will tell you that artificial origins are not ruled out. Doesn't matter though, it only takes a single scientist to say it is for the fact-checking czar to ban any dissent.

This is such an embarrassing take I don’t know what to say....nobody ever claimed this was MADE in a lab. It was altered and experimented with and accidentally got out. How this is some huge leap of understanding is beyond laughable....these are functions openly discussed and promoted by the very guy headlining the response.

All humans caused this. What an agenda driven piece of trash stance.

To say a virus is altered within a lab is i think basically akin to saying it was created in a lab, because such a virus wouldnt exist without this artifical lab alteration. That aside, one of the early narratives was that it was a Chinese bioweapon that came from a lab in Wuhan; there was a paper published (then retracted) saying that it had pieces of hiv inserted into it; people on here were saying the same and putting forward ideas that it had been artificially constructed using fragments of many other viruses. Once the bioweapon claims were discredited, there was a pivot to it being a natural virus that accidentally escaped -a theory much harder to disprove from the outside, and which remains a possible origin.

The article contradicts itself several times. In the first bit, they say "The other requires only for biology to behave as it always has, for a family of viruses that have done this before to do it again." But then at the end they say: "What if it wasn’t one bad Chinese government’s fault, but the whole world’s fault for destroying habitats, mining too deeply, and creating the perfect conditions for natural viral spillovers?"

So its both simultaneously just normal biology that happens all the time and always has...but its also the fault of miners for mining too deep.

Theres no contradiction. The point is that there is a lot of precedent for the natural spillovers that have caused most of the infections in humans, and secondly, that human activity is increasing the frequency and opportunity for such spillovers and potential pandemic pathogens to emerge.

His first statement says "The other requires only for biology to behave as it always has". Requires only. As in, if left to its own devices, viruses will mutate and jump species. Which is true. His second statement then says that humans are hiding from the blame...its us that caused this. That statement is unsupported by anything in his article. The origins of Covid-19 are not determined. There is no evidence it was caused by miners or by habitat destruction. In fact, its the exact opposite...the nearest strain of it isolated from bats were found in an incredibly remote region China far away from any civilization.
