I don’t know very much about zoonotic diseases. I’m sure the range of illnesses out there would blow my mind. Sometimes looking at the night sky on a clear midnight blows my mind. I don’t think I’ve used “zoonotic” in a sentence out loud before. If I have, I probably mispronounced it.
Nevertheless, I have seen guilty parties obfuscate scientific evidence for their own benefit so many times throughout my life that it just doesn’t seem worthwhile to look into it, or try and convince myself that a vicious authoritarian government would ever admit wrongdoing on a massive scale. They still pretend the tiananmen square massacre is a myth. They lie about Mao’s achievements to an absolutely incredible, childish, insane degree. There is no reason to trust that government on any subject, ever. They are as bad or worse than the big brother state from 1984.
As for the USA, the pentagon funded that lab. Pentagon officials are also some of the worst liars on Earth today. The Iraq war is one example, but there are countless others. They will drone strike weddings and tell people they hit a terrorist compound, without batting an eye.
We’ve also seen a long history in the USA of corporations lying about dangerous problems for the sake of profit. Tobacco and big oil have unlimited funds and seem to be able to find a scientist who will just agree with whatever they want them to. They found doctors that will say smoking is good for you, and scientists who will say that we can dump anything we want into the atmosphere consequence free. It’s clearly a lie motivated by profit in both cases. Covid has been a boon to the pharmaceutical industry and they have no real reason to honestly pursue the genuine cause of this disease; and aren’t.
I suppose, if the Chinese government were completely open and transparent, allowed a full U.N. Investigation into the lab, where experts from multiple countries combed through the place and live streamed it, and those experts all unanimously said it came from an animal across the street, I would read a lot more about zoonotic diseases.
But that ain’t what’s happening, old chap.
Very good post, bud.
I can see where you're coming from, and you're right. It still seems a little one sided to me, but the you're factoring that into your thinking, so I can't disagree.
Looking at the rhetoric, the mistakes blend into the lies so seamlessly it's hard to know what's legit and what's bullshit. It is still worth noting the prevalence of zoonotic diseases long before the first scientist wanked himself into oblivion over the idea of a biolab.
