Elections Democratic Road to 2016 Primary Thread

I hope Elizabeth Warren enters and crushes Hilary

I honestly cant believe people think she has a chance.

SHes the only candidate where when people argue for her I have not heard a single solid stance she has, just that she could be the first women president. Someone said she's the idiot vote, and its so fucking true.

Shes an absolute dreadful candidate.

A few things:

-She is going to go through the primaries possibly uncontested. This means raising money for GE instead of primary opponents. There are pros and cons to this but the money is a nice edge for the GE.
-If Jeb is on the other side, she has a significant chance of winning cause there won't be a choice at something new.
-She has the best resume of either side. This doesn't mean you will or won't be a good president, but you can't deny her credentials.
-Her and the media that supports her are going to be able to claim sexism if a GOP candidate goes to hard on her during the debates. They already are portraying Rand as a sexist. This likely will backfire but I doubt it. They couldn't do it to Obama cause he was a minority candidate. It would've looked silly.
-Also, yes. She will be able to run on first woman president. Winning the female vote well enough could alone win her the election.

Can't count her out. I think she will fail but I still don't think she has no chance.

What credentials exactly? Her failed time as secretary of state? She's riding off her husbands credentials. SHe hasnt done anything.

New York Senator
Secretary of State

You can argue she got elected to those positions because of her husband but that doesn't nullify the credentials. The "failed time" is a partisan comment that you should understand there will be disagreement over in the GE. Everyday voters don't know or rant about Bengazi when they think about Hillary.

I would prefer Warren but I would vote for Clinton over any Republican.

Cross former Mass. Gov Deval Patrick off any potential running mate list as he accepted a gig with Bain Capital. Hell I think it's safe to say he will never run for public office again - which he did say was his plan all along - a promise to his wife. I assume she wants to live the high life, and no doubt Patrick cashed in with his Bain gig.

This news is funny because look at who his new boss is going to be.

That being said the guy who has been most successful at Bain Capital is also one of the largest political donors to the Democrat party in MA. He also I believe is part owner of the Celtics and has a stake in the Red Sox's? The guy is likely the highest paid guy at Bain and very likely is paid more then Mitt Romney. He could have been a major reason why Patrick decided to go to work at Bain.

Why Warren? It's line Obama but more progressive. Just why?

Do people actually want an ultra progressive president? Is that the liberal agenda?

The "agenda" is that they want a woman for president not named Clinton. People in their late 30s and above might welcome a Clinton back in the White House but the younger crowd want someone fresh. It would feel like the status quo with Clinton.

I don't dislike Hillary but I feel she brings too much baggage. Warren would be my choice.

rshawneecarbon1 needs to stop dumbing down the discussion. This thread's for people who aren't idiots.

Anyway, today I read an article that's making the slow and painful realization that Hillary is probably the best choice a bit less painful:

The GOP's plan to turn Hillary into Mitt Romney

Forget about the Arkansas days, the small-bore scandals, her health care plan and most everything else from the 1990s. A consensus is forming within the Republican Party that the plan of attack against Hillary Clinton should be of a more recent vintage, rooted in her accumulation of wealth and designed to frame her as removed from the concerns of average Americans.
With close to 20 announced and prospective GOP candidates in 2016, there

Its shocking that its April 2015 and people are already mentioning the Supreme Court as the reason to vote for a nominee. You are supposed to be in the "building excitement phase" right now.

I don't understand. Are only liberal justices expected to step down after 2016? If so, don't you think they will step down before the election for Obama to make appointments?

If the plan is to make Hillary into Mitt Romney - they must be assuming Jeb Bush isn't going to be their nominee. The angle might work against Rubio who still has student loans I believe, and Walker who is a regular dude for the most part - but Jeb grew up privileged and made his business connections off of Daddy's name.

No, that's not it. Normally after months of negative campaigning people finally get to the "okay, well my guy is a shit sandwich too, but I'll vote for him at least because of the supreme court picks".

At this point, people are supposed to be excited about the candidate they pick, not already demoralized.

Too late for that with GOP Senate majority. Ruth Bader Ginsberg will wait for Hillary and hope Dems take back Senate in 2016. Scalia and Kennedy could try to make it 8 more years for a post-Hillary, but they're likely both hoping a Republican gets in next just in case because tomorrow is promised to nobody, especially folks on the wrong side of 80.

Out of the choices in the poll, I would vote for either Webb or Warren.
