Social DEI is so dead

How many companies do you reckon get punished when it's clearly going on? I worked for an Indian company for years and years, I was part of the furniture and like family. The CEO wouldn't hire a black person apart from one guy who was best friends with his nephew growing up. And it was literally because he was racist against black people. I was underpaid against a co-worker as a female with him doing a terrible job and me going over and above my sales target so I went to Mr CEO and told him I needed an increase on my salary. IT was VERY male orientated, I was the only woman in sales. Should the CEO be taken to court for paying me less than a useless male colleague?

I don't know but shouldn't you be pushing to have companies punished for being racist? Curing discrimination by using discrimination means you're no better than the racist CEO who won't hire black people. He has his justifications for why he doesn't want to hire black people and the pro DEI people have their justifications for why they don't want to hire white people. They're both equally racist.

I've been paid less than useless colleagues as well. I can't tell you if the guy was discriminating against you because you are a woman or if the other guy just got hired on at a higher salary while you accepted a lower salary during the hiring process. Either way the fix is not to force the CEO to start discriminating against men to cure his discrimination against women. The point is to get rid of discrimination. Not use it as a force for when you deem your certain discriminatory process it to be the right thing to do.

White flight.

Man you guys are weird.

There is 100% of something. If one goes up, the other must go down. So if people of different races start taking up homes in an area, fucking common sense dictates that the numbers of another race have to go down

You guys are weird

Are you from Europe or something?

White flight doesn't mean "the percentage of white residents in an area decrease," it means that they leave either completely or close to it. It's happened all over the US for decades.

That's not what DEI or affirmative action does though. It doesn't set quotas, which COULD result in unqualified people getting certain positions. But it doesn't.

DEI initiatives assume that there's a pool of equally qualified people from all races applying and simply encourages that extra consideration be given to accepting or promoting them. It doesn't pick random people off the street and put them in these positions.

DEI doesn't get the black woman with a 900 SAT score into Princeton just because she's a black woman. It gives the black woman with a 1400 SAT score into Princeton from a pool of other students with similar scores.

This isn't true at all...lol

The CEO admitted he paid the guy a higher base salary because he was a guy and women selling IT didn't tend to do well in a predominantly male led industry. As it turned out I dated his brother for a few months and then he phone stalked me. Should I have sued the company for that? Considering he was doing it on company land lines?

And it was 17 years ago when I worked there, you expect me to dredge up racism now? I was dragged around by my hair and called a honky bitch constantly by my bosses.

I'm sorry you had to deal with all of that. Sounds like a bunch of assholes.

But what does this have to do with DEI?

He hired white women to even out that he only hired Indian and Middle Eastern folk. I didn't work with barely any women sales people the years I was there.

Why didn't you appeal to Aslan or the Tooth Fairy for help with this totally made up story?

No, there's been studies on this. Here's just one-

On average, nonwhites find mixed neighborhoods ideal, whites prefer whiter neighborhoods.
Because they can't live in white neighborhoods. As soon as they move in it's mixed.

Yeah it is, if you actually look at SAT scores

Obviously the scores for blacks and Latinos is gonna be lower, if it wasn't there wouldn't be a need for these programs. But it's not a dramatic difference.

The average black student has something like a 1400-1450 while the average white near 1500 and average Asian 1550. Where are the vastly unqualified sub-1000 students? And if you've ever taught at a high school (I have), you'll know that the difference between a 1450 student and a 1550 student is absolutely negligible. They're both extremely bright and dedicated.

So evil Affirmative Action was just giving very bright blacks and Latinos a small bump over very bright whites and Asians.

We're talking about preferences. This whole exchange started when I brought up that minorities prefer to live in mixed neighborhoods more than whites prefer to live in mixed neighborhoods.

You said you weren't sure about that and I pointed you to a study that showed that in this case, blacks prefer to live in mixed neighborhoods more.

So I'm in this corporate group with leaders from a lot of different companies, and they bring in different speakers to talk about business trends, leadership, strategy, etc.

The speakers are generally pretty good. The facilitator asks the audience to have their cameras on so it'll be a more interactive experience and usually 90% of us do leave our cameras on.

But today they brought in a speaker with a background that was all related to DEI stuff, so I turned my camera off and decided to listen while I got some actual work done.

About 10 minutes in, I happened to click back to that screen and saw that everyone else's camera was turned off too. I started scrolling to see if I could find a single person with a camera turned on and I found maybe 5 or 6 people out of 70ish had actually left their cameras on.

This was unusual for this group. Never seen anything like it. I think they all had the same thought I did as soon as they heard DEI, they just decided they're was no reason to pay attention anymore.
You're never going to beat amirkiana (spellling?) sherdog fiction writing.

A small bump over a small percent. White opposition to anti-discrimination programs is just them saying they should be able to get the whole pie if they feel like they qualify for it. The Supreme Court case was them making that argument, but supplanting Asians for themselves

Yeah and AA being scrapped mostly affected elite institutions which makes it even more odious, imo.

So a few rich kids are mad that they didn't get in to Harvard and Yale and had to settle for NYU or Notre Dame or something. Or, heaven forbid, a public like Michigan or Berkeley.
