Deconstructing MMA Myths... [Part 26] - Dat Groovy Paradox...

{<redford}

Your DAMN right bruv. Evolve or die is the way I see it in this sport. I have alot of respect for guys like Lando and especially Lando himself. Those .gifs where he fought in his pre-ufc days, those moves were un fkn real. His wrasslin is absolutely legit. I'll be honest and say I miss his long hair! I feel it made him kinda like Samson, Legit as fuck and not to be fucked with. He has taken on nothing but stellar competition and has come up short recently. Still, I'm not throwing in the towel on the kid. He is a fkng beast. Alot to be learned from him and I absolutely agree with his needing to evolve.

I wonder if all the striking and trying to KTFO guys has to do with wanting more $$ .... Ima have to assume of course it does.

<seedat> @Champ Gono btw bruv you one deep thinking son of a gun!
Groovy is still a rookie, long way to go, refocus on his skill set...

But...He´s still our...

Groovy is a fun fighter to watch, and though I don’t think he’ll become a well-rounded / strategy master type of fighter, I do think UFC are shooting themselves in the foot by not matching him up with strikers.

He’s not going to be a contender, so there’s no point in having him fight wrestlers or point fighters, to see if he’s ready for a title shot.

I understand what you mean. Makdessi is more of a wild striker, and that’s why that fight, brief as it was, was so fun to watch. Teymur uses his striking to score points rather than go for the finish.

I’m not saying dudes need to stand and bang with Groovy, but a fight with a Cerrone / Barboza / even Miller or Lauzon type of guy would be much more fun to watch than what Groovy has been matched up with recently.

hhmm.. ya dont feel it was an opportunity for Groovy to showcase his [potential] well-rounded game, and try to school Teymur on the ground, instead of bein´ taken down?

Good point. I think, as you pointed out in the OP, Groovy convinced himself that he is a kickboxer and not a mixed martial artist. I agree that it’s frustrating to watch, but if UFC wants to get the best performances out of him, it can either wait for him to re-tool his approach (which may never happen), or give him fun match-ups and enjoy the results.

Let´s see his new team...

that green fight could have been stopped right there, and i thought lando deserved the decision anyway, but that fuckin clown green milked a THIGH to the face and got the point taken away.

Rd 1 could have been a 10-9 Groovy even with the point deducted...

Seems Groovy´s gonna fight against 'Dhalsim', Marcos Rosa, from Spider´s Killer Bees Team...@ UFC 234

Good points.

I also don't understand how he can't make FW he is still young-ish and we have guys like Ortega and Max that seem just as big as him if not bigger if they went to LW.

Yea I get he is a normal sized LW but I don't think he is cutting extreme he should either try to go down or put a tad extra on him but then again he does slow down after the first 5-10 minutes he ussualy loses that 3rd round and it cost him a lot of victories that way.
:meow:
Groovy bless

<Kobe213> the champ shuttin fools down

They hate Lando, cause they aint Lando:meow:l@nd0

This thread is groovy.

Yeah I don’t get it either. Groovy does not have massive legs or a thick torso so IMO he should be able to drop. Is it a discipline thing? I am thinking so as he has shown lapses in concentration inability to overcome his gas tank issues in the 3rd round.

I will always love watching him fight but I have been let down just a bit.

Dhalsim, Groovy´s new opponent, looks freakin´ huge...How can he cut to LW?!

@BlueNote
Ts is kinda irritating and doesnt seem to be able to stick to particular points in an argument or discussion. He veers off course and misunderstands the core of an argument ... And then posts smug pics and gifs
