Deadlifts and milkshakes

I think the setup looks pretty good, WC. I don't have any points of critique with regards to it, and the only thing I really noticed was that you could do a better job pulling your shoulder blades together during the eccentric portion of the lift. Your descent is fast and, at times, a little loose, and trying to create a "spring" with your scalpulae would help you.

I do always notice that I am dropping down very fast. I'll work on it. Thanks for the help.

I meant to ask... I assume you're going flat-footed now due to federation rules?? Or am I mistaken?

Yep! I figured I should probably always start benching flat footed if that is how I am expected to compete. I'm sticking to USAPL competitions only for now and that is one of their rules.

You would have lost teeth if I wasn't there. Great benching!

Thanks for helping coach!

Your bench looks good WC. I'm no expert with benching since I never really did it till the last couple of years. I believe what has really helped me is upper back strength, I tried to look through your journal to see what assistance work you have been doing and how it's progressed but I gave up..to much chatter :D

If you're not doing it already might want to consider mixing hypertrophy work with ME on assitance work.

I've just started adding some assistance work for all of my lifts this past month or so. So far, it's hindered my progress. It takes me forever to recover and there's not a day that goes by that I'm not sore. I'm sure eventually the virgin soreness (lulz) will go away and I'll start to feel stronger, but for now, it's just been frustrating.

Your bench is so much better than mine.

2/3/12

Noms:

Protein shake: Milk, ice cream, protein powder, chocolate syrup, peanut butter, spinach
Lots of cookie things
Greek yogurt, lots of almonds, an apple
Chicken and green beans

Notes: Work has been really, really, really shitty lately. I was promoted not too long ago and at the time was very excited. However, the promotion has brought me a lot of stress and put me in uncomfortable situations with other people I work with. Energy is incredibly low.

lol stooppppppp, don't you have a crazy overhead??

It's so-so.

How can your bench suck?

I never benched, Oddly enough that lead to some major suckage. I've recently put it back in as an assistance to my press though.

But I am serious, your bench is better than mine. The only reason I'm doing more is because of my gender. Is that sexist ? Hopefully not.

My bench is my best lift and surprisingly enough it is the one that is the least important to me.

It's not sexist. People who argue that men and women can do the same thing physically are morons.

That chick/dude/thing is disgusting!

Legio - why were you flat-footing it? It does make weight feel like a ton, doesn't it?

BW: 132 this morning. WTF?!?! This is pre-bulk weight. I was in my underwear (giggity) and it was before I had eaten anything, so maybe I really haven't been gaining much weight after all. If I want accurate results, I'll have to remember to weigh myself at the same time everyday.

Noms:
steak and cheese wrap
monster energy drink during workout
jamaican food: tropical chicken, candied yams, mac and cheese, can of dr. pepper
protein shake with the works

Notes: Went to Poundstone's gym again. Lots of big guys there today, I felt like a shrimp!

I was supposed to use 190 for the singles but they didn't have 2.5's and I even shamelessly asked for them. So instead, I figured instead of going down to 185, I was going to go balls deep and use 195. It was a battle but I finished it!!! Form is shitty but I don't think speed is too bad.

Derek also came over to me after I was done deadlifting and asked me if I was "having trouble deadlifting?" I had no idea what he meant but he said he noticed that I have a long torso and it seems hard for me to get down into a good starting position. He suggested that I start deadlifting sumo. I think it's about time I try it. Especially since the World's Strongest Man told me to...

Here's the set of singles. I also threw in a set of the reverse hypers. Am I doing it right? Looks like I might not be letting my legs swing enough?

Congrats on the PR, that's great.

I posted some reverse hyper advice on the PR thread. I think it will help you out.

Awesome deadlifting, WC! Can't wait to see the PR! Unfortunately I have no advice to offer about reverse hypers as I've never done them.
