Have you tried taking time off to help recover from the hip issue?

I haven't taken time off from lifting completely but I stopped doing things that irritate my hip like leg raises and squatting. I messed up and wanted to see how squatting felt and now I'm wishing that I hadn't. Luckily, deads and pressing do not hurt!

Notes: Took a nap when I got home from work. I subbed in a third grade classroom today and the kids were ANIMALS.
 
First of all, Happy Halloween S&C. I dressed up as Clarice Starling FBI and Goon was Hannibal Lecter. Dog was a devil (devil dog). And our friend was the most perfect Waldo you could be and stole all of our attention. :)

Second, update on ART appointment.

I went to the new guy today. I didn't get any work done but he ran some physical tests. He concluded that I have tight adductors, IT band syndrome and the glutes of Hank Hill (weak). He also looked over some old MRIs and spotted a herniated disk that was overlooked years ago.

I am skeptical because he mainly rehabs triathletes and doesn't know what 'powerlifting' consists of. He recommended that I stop deadlifting for the time being. I understand why he said no squats, but deadlifting? That's the only thing keeping me in one piece and I will not stop doing them. Plus, then I'd have to change my log title.

Notes: Some rehab/softball work at home that the doctor suggested I do. Happy with my deads today, this was the first week of the program that I was not sure if I was going to finish or not. It was hard and my form broke down a little but I pushed through it.

Thanks. And I know, I've been deadlifting for years and still have no idea how to lower the weight correctly. My lower back is soreeee today.

I almost admire how blatant he is. Checking out good asses is, I believe, genetically wired into male behaviour (Don't know if you've seen the video on YouTube which is from a camera pointing out of the back of a hot girl's bag, capturing all these guys checking her out when they think she can't see them- but it sort of shows just how ingrained it is, I think). But usually we are able to be a bit more subtle.

ART treatment #1

Best $20 I've ever spent. The first 10 minutes, the doctor left some heating blankets on my hip. The rest of the appointment was focused on my piriformis, sciatic nerve, hip flexors and IT band. It was painful but in a therapeutic way. I feel awesome right now and can't wait to go again. He asked me to attend a stride and gait seminar next week to analyze my movement as I run. It's free but I don't know if I feel like going. Anyone think it would be worthwhile? I hate running and never plan to run more than the time it takes me to run from my car to my house in the rain. He continues to think that my goals are to run competitively again even though I thought I was pretty clear that I have no interest in that anymore.
 
Deadlifts look quite good. Whoever's taking your video is pretty spot on with his cues--it looks like you struggle developing speed off the ground but have a smooth lockout. I think a little speed of the floor would help you.
 
And I would watch you too if I went to your gym, although it'd be because I tend watch anybody, male or female, who can perform a compound lift with competence I'd imagine I've sent some wrong signals over the years because of this...

Anyway, maybe he was impressed by your deadlift. Yeah, that could be it.
