Deadlifts and milkshakes

I can't believe you're already doing triangle escapes, did that hurt your mouth at all? I have 3 wisdom teeth that need to come out but I'm stalling..

It hurt minimally actually. It hurt more if someone hit me with their knee underneath my chin because then my teeth would hit and hurt my jaw. Get the wisdoms out asap! I waited and they got infected and it was sooooo painful.

BJJ no-gi

3 variations of the flower sweep. I was NOT getting this but I think it was just because my partner wasn't moving naturally making it difficult to get the momentum for the sweep.

Pummeling/working for a better position from standing - my instructor helped me break hands on my wrists and how to get better wrist control

Takedowns - bear hug, knee pinch

Rolling

Round 1 - Briana had told me she wanted to roll light today because her back was hurting but about 30 secs in I forgot all about injuries. Feel kinda bad, I was sweeping her a lot and trying to armbar her. Damn endorphins!

Round 2 - Rolled with my instructor. I swept him a lot, got an armbar. I kept trying to take his back but was unsuccessful. Need to learn more ways to get the back. He complimented me on my sweeps and gave me some pointers on my takedowns like getting an underhook when someone goes for a leg.

Spent some day after class asking questions. I learned some techniques for applying pressure to the throat when in mount to get the person to put their elbows up.

Spent another hour just chillin with everyone and hearing funny stories about my training partners. I'm really loving my school, feels like a community.

I enjoy your posts. But it makes me sad that I cant train as much as Id like. Makes it hard to read :(

/end self pitty.

Good job Dani. I decided we are on a first name basis now.

Is it the fact that you dont train enough or the crazy color scheme that makes it hard to read? haha

It is something to be very jealous of! I am having so much fun but I'm not setting daily PRs like you.

So now that we're on a first name basis....errr....what's your name??

hey!!! wheres the lifts? keep up your strength routine!

I know, I know...I really need to get back into the gym. I'm just too crazy about BJJ right now and already have too little time for school. Soon though!

BJJ (gi)

Sprawling

Takedowns - getting more aggressive and better at these

Missed my BJJ club today so that I could make it to the gi class at my real BJJ school. We learned a sweep from the armbar, it was somewhat advanced for me. Most of the dudes in the class were blues/purples. It's a three step move where you're trying to get an armbar on someone that attempts many defenses.

Rolling

Round 1 - Blue belt. I kept good back control. I think he actually couldn't get me off. He complimented me afterwards.

Round 2 - Younger kid with some experience. Got his back as well. I'm on a monster on the back, no one can get me off.

Round 3 - Purple belt. He let me work some stuff, but also submitted me for all the little things that I did that were stupid.

Armdrags are your friend.

That's a good point. I really liked the armdrag when I first learned it but I haven't been doing it quick enough and get taken down quickly afterwards. I also don't know how to get an arm drag while on the ground. All future questons to ask I guess.

________

Finally went to the gym today!!!!

Deadlifts
95 x 5
105 x 5
135 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3

Bench
Bar x 10
65 x 10
75 x 5
80 x 5
85 x 3
95 x 1
95 x 0
90 x 1
90 x 1
90 x 1
90 x 1
90 x 1
**volume PR with 90**

Donkey kick machine thingy
Did a few sets of 10. I'm only doing these because I want a nice ass like Katie Coles...don't judge.

Farmer walks with 25 lb bumper plates

Tricep pushdowns with ropes
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15

Cable crossover
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 5

Supported leg raises
BW x 10
BW x 10
BW x 10

My core feels stronger from jiu jitsu and the leg raises were much easier than they used to be. All my other lifts are suffering from the neglect though.

Also, noticed something unusual about my wisdom teeth this evening. The place where they got pulled, there is some bone exposed on each side. I'm a LITTLE nervous and eager to talk to my doctor tomorrow. I think dry socket happens with about 3% of extractions and knowing my luck, it happened to me.

AWESOME videos! That last one is impressive, I really enjoy anything by Marcelo. In fact, I might train with him this Thursday in Manhattan so maybe I can just ask his advice on arm drags! Either way, thanks for the vids.

Do squats!! Then do lunges! Then MOAR SQUATS! Have you not checked out the girls+ squats thread yet? Do it. Then squat to get their ass!

Consequently, I should be doing more grappling/rolling and less gym time, I'm always at like 40-60% capacity during BJJ time =(

I completely understand class crunch time =/ exams are close for me too!

Anyways, short version: Glad to see a strength post!

I'm working on it! Sheesh!!!!!

Proof that I've been working on it actually, I wrote up a little program for myself in class today and tried to pick days to lift that school/bjj isn't so crazy. Please anyone and everyone critique. It seems a bit busy because of the BJJ but it's highly unlikely I would get rid of any of those days.

Bench: 135 lbs

Am I in way over my head?

Boxing - 1 hour

Two 5-minute rounds of jump roping, cardio feels pretty good.

Did a lot of stuff today. Boxing requires a lot of coordination which I don't have. I have a natural stance, but I have trouble with things that have a lot of steps and also require power.

BJJ (no-gi) 1.5 hours

Went over some additional attacks from the triangle setup. First, drilled the triangle. They are coming so smoothly to me now and every time I practice them it feels more perfect.

Two extra attacks were elbow lock where you hug their arm to you and push hips up. Second when they defend by putting their hand to their chin to prevent the elbow lock, you trap their arm, grab your own hip and push their wrist the opposite way that you're pushing your hips creating shoulder and elbow pain.

Guard passing drills

Swept Briana after just a few seconds. I am really liking that sweep (trapping the arm and same leg and bridging over. I get a lot of people with this!)

Rolling

Round 1 - Guy was a little bit better than me. I really tried to go easy and not spaz and just focus on keeping my hips low and keeping chest pressure. Used some cool side control techniques that I've been learning.

Round 2 - Briana said her back hurt and she wanted to go light. I went really slowly at first and then she started freaking out and trying to smash me, accidentally hitting me in the face a lot. There is a lot of pressure on the both of us to do better than one another but I was a little pissed that she did that. Asking me to go light and then smashing my face. She got high mount me and then just stayed there for the entire round. urghhkghkkg.

I am really liking rolling with more advanced people because I get to try out more of my jiu jitsu techniques that I am learning in class. I feel like it is a disadvantage for me that I am always paired with Briana and other beginner girls.

Your training schedule is awesome. Lots of food and sleep is in order. Good luck!

Looks great! I applaud your efforts! Try and fit a rest and relax day in your week somewhere though! I know the allure of bjj is tough

Thank you gentlemen. I already missed yesterday's planned gym session. I have an interview for Teach for America tomorrow and have been preparing like nuts + it's midterms week.

BUT...of course, I didn't miss judo class last night!

Judo (1.5 hours)

Warm up is a lot more intense than BJJ. A lot of footwork drills, squatting, break falling, crunches, push ups, etc. We learned a lot of ways to offset your opponents balance (grabbing their sleeve, tightening it up and twisting your body and your wrist to pull them forward) and ways to keep your own balance. I think I was the only person that fell during these drills. My balance is crap, but I was also partnered with the only kid in the class who knew judo.

Rolled a little after class but quickly got kicked off to clean the mats.

I don't know how I feel about going to Judo. It's only once a week and progress in technique seems like it would be minimal for that little practice. And it also replaced the only Gi class that I could make it to! GRRrrrr!

Warm-up: Jump rope 2 x 3:00 rounds

Dynamic warm up: BW squats, asian squat, deep sideways lunges

Front squat
65 x 5
70 x 5
75 x 3
80 x 3
80 x 3
80 x 3
80 x 3
80 x 3

Push press
Bar x 10
55 x 5
5 lb. shoulder complexes that I forgot to do beforehand
65 x 5
70 x 5
75 x 2
75 x 2
65 x 5

Donkey kicks
something x 10 x 3

BJJ 2 hours (no-gi)

Warm ups (like I really needed to warm up after lifting) running, sprinting, break dancing, yadda yadda

Goon and I decided to make it a "drilling" day for all of the beginners. I really think I need this more than anything. I've been learning too much stuff and not practicing it.

Rolled with a beginner girl, went really light because I was flippin exhausted from lifting and being dehydrated. Also rolled with Goon and he set up a lot of "bait" for me like having one arm in so that I could practice slapping on a triangle or an armbar. I also have been trying to work a lot on trying to apply pressure.

I need to improve on breaking the guard without making myself too vulnerable. I get swept/triangled/back taken a lot from not keeping my hips low enough.

Taking tomorrow OFF!! I have an 8 hour interview in NYC tomorrow, although I was thinking of sneaking a free trial into Marcelo's school since my interview will be just a block away!

My computer has a virus so I haven't logged my past three days of training.

Friday (no-gi)
triangle -> armbar -> omoplata -> sweep
I LOVE this set up!

Saturday (gi)
Using the gi to get the triangle, grabbing their sleeve/getting the whizzer, "biting" the neck with the crook of your leg and getting the triangle

Sunday (no-gi)
Drilled omoplata sweep. Learned the rape choke and cheater triangle.
Learned a new guard pass. Breaking the guard, pinning the leg down with your elbow then lifting the other leg with your knee, scooping your arm under and passing.

I am doing really well rolling. Raptor has started coming again and he is severely uncoordinated and I practice a lot of my techniques on him and I hope he learns some defenses in the process. Then I get smooooshed by the tough guys that go to the school. Both type of partners are helping me learn. I felt REALLY tired today though, been making midday naps a routine lately.

Also, someone made a montage of women deadlifting that someone sent me a little while ago and I'm in it! Did one of you Sherdoggers make this?!?
