Deadlifts and milkshakes

hahaha, I love the story of the suit. I was trying to figure out where it was coming from! I was sitting there thinking "dude, why does she have a suit? Where did she get it?" I love it. Perfect for your birthday given the other circumstances. Dude, what the heck on the knee front. That's just cruddy. I bet it's just a fluke. Maybe really look at some video of your squatting and watch for motor pattern inequality in the way you're tracking with your knees and compare it to which one is in pain.

congrats girl!

Thanks guy!

Yep, ridiculous suit that just fell into my hands.

Knee was just a fluke actually! It hurt really bad for one day and the next day I felt nothing. Thank goodness.

congrats on the Rep PR!

Thanks catlady!! (who secretly loves dogs too)

I've been considering going back to school for my doctorate once I'm finished in August with my master's but after this semester, I've been reconsidering. It's tough to do graduate work, go to an actual job, and then train. Oiiiii

Thanks! I know, I'm bummed. It was a funny one too. Oh well.

I went to a deadlift/power clean seminar today. I paid for it about two months ago. The presenters were two coaches from Rips gym; one guy and one woman. The guy was awesome and had really great feedback but the woman (who I got paired up with) was terrible.

We started out with the deadlift. There was nothing new or revolutionary here. Same old shit that everyone tells me. Chest up, knees out, blah blah. My form was fine, and they told me that, but I used pretty light weights. (only worked up to a set of 5 with 175). They told me that I need to work on keeping my chest up more. Who knew. I'll work on it :-/

Next, we practiced progressions that led up to the clean. I think their type of instruction would get a lot of heat from everyone here. They teach the starting position of the clean as a deadlift. Hips were higher than I've ever seen anyone clean before. Apparently, I don't jump hard enough and am very slow to get my hands under the bar. Did some triples with a light weight (I think 65 lbs, can't remember).

Overall, I don't think it was worth my money. The female coach didn't understand how to give cues properly. She would just say "no, no. no" WHILE I was lifting. And then when I would put the weight down, she would say, "What did you do wrong?" And I really don't like that. I paid to be told immediate feedback and not to guess what I need to work on. If my elbows need to be up, just fucking say, "elbows up." Jesus.

Jump ! because fuck it, I'm Mark Rippetoe and I say so.

Then you learned how not to give cues, that's something? Hope you had fun!

What I would do to have some professional feedback...

BTW, finally got through subscribing to your log.

lol, I'm uploading a video of the cleans now. You'll see. They said that was the only cue that was needed. JUMP, because if you jump, everything else will happen on its own.

Yes, definitely. It was a good lesson on what not to do. The male coach, however, was pretty cool.

Glad you're following along! How did you hear about Sherdog anyways? It's not common for women to join this forum and it seems the ones that are here now came with their significant others.

Now you've learned a very valuable lesson about seminars. I'd never pay for one unless it was with someone very well known for being good at what they do.

Well yeah... There is a certain Mr GluteusMaximus... He got tired that I demanded feedback on my lifts when he couldn't really give more advice than he already had, so he suggested I started a log on here. Took me a long while to convince myself to post my numbers and show videos of myself to this crowd of professional athletes and generally bad ass strong people.

If I sound confident, maybe people will think I know what I'm talking about. And If I'm successful with that, I can charge them money.

Jake wanna help me make a quick buck ?

I think you should storm into the gym making a scene of biblical proportions until they give you your money back.

Don't forget the circle jerk . . . I mean affiliate method. You get a bunch of people to say how knowledgable and skilled at coaching you are, in return for saying the same about them. Now it looks like you're a well known and positively recommended coach.

Well... that sucks. Shouldn't be terribly surprising to you though.

I've had to share a gym with the leader of that cult for an entire week before.

He has no business instructing anyone in anything, ever. Nevermind any of his sycophants.

I'm a sucker for these kinds of things.

Is he on here as well? Also, your starting numbers are awesome. When I started a log here, I was as newbish as one could possibly be. Now I'm just slightly less newbish lol

You have to write a book too! Don't forget about that.

lol, I think our gym owner would be confused. This was one of a series of 3 seminars and they generally received positive feedback from everyone.

Well, I am being overly critical of these people because that is my nature. Is their advice really that wrong??

That would be VoodooPlata, his log's called Bang your head.
I have been gym training sporadically for a few years, but it's only now I'm making real progress and successfully targeting problems. Started out with lots of cable and machine workouts, with different focus each active weightlifting period.

Deadlift suit? This is very advanced lulz-based programming. Impressive.

Yeah, it's wrong... you don't jump. Zillions of videos out there showing all the top class lifters not jumping. You can't get your ass under the bar fast if your ass is stuck up in the air somewhere.
