DDP outclassed - strength or technique? both?

I mean, you have the god of russian wrestling coaches as a coach, the god of olympic wrestlers as a training partner, the god of PEDs as a conditioning coach, then you add amazing juiced wrestlers like Tsarukyan, on top of your natural gift.

There's no surprise here.

Everyone knew DDP was sloppy and I was 80% that he would lose, but to think his wrestling would be this bad is just crazy.

He doesn't even seem to have some of the most basic shit down.
Yes, just because he has shown some offensive wrestling and top control doesn't mean he has the defensive skills.

He relied a lot on pure strength to try to muscle out of positions and it just doesn't work against a strong guy with elite technique.

He was outmatched everywhere.

DDP was the inferior wrestler, the inferior athlete, and even the inferior striker.

It was crazy watching him get stuck in quicksand when someone took his ability to control range… he was a sitting duck for Khamzats strikes from the outside.

Those lack of fundamentals caught up to him… happens to every unorthodox fighter

I am fact checking this post and I approve the message

Technique and smart, he looked worse than Usman and Burns... We told you. <36>

I expected him to lose to a guy with a decent jab. The takedown is Khamzats's jab.

Reminded me of the GSP vs Hardy fight. Dude spent the entire camp just focused on not getting finished. On top of low fight IQ. Going for chokes instead of underhooks or getting distance, throwing kicks, not exploding when on the knees making Khamzat work. If you want to exploit his cardio you have to actually make him work.

Most guys have to build up the entry whereas Khamzat just forces it & it works every time for him. He is a freakish human.

He drops levels really fast. But what he did with those takedowns was really disappointing

He got drowned by someone whose whole game is to take you down and sub you. Brunson tried standing for a bit, others have tried standing but Khamzat just don’t care.

Technique and equal strength imo, he clowned him in every aspect on the ground so badly that the referee tried to save his title for him. I mean, his championship run was basically made of strikers who were worse at wrestling than he was plus who were physically weaker. Strickland, Izzy and Whittaker made him look like a well rounded fighter.

i dont think it was either technique or strength, i think it was reaction time and agility. DDP was getting baited really hard by a simple jab, he had big reactions to 1-2 combo going straight back while Khamzat just instantly ducks and gets a double leg or both hands behind DDPs back which results in a trip or a throw to the ground. We saw DDP defend the first takedown a couple of times, but Khamzat simply either turned a corner and chained another, or just kept pushing and getting it that way over time.

I think one improvement he can make is to significantly lower his stance, the guy has a very sluggish stance where he just does not seem to have good balance, staying low and having a short boxing style might help him if they had a rematch. DDP just seemed like his body physique was not helping him in this fight, big guy, bulky, with poor side to side movement is what i think was his downfall, and im not sure he can really fix that over time.

So everyone saying technique.. is Khamzat going to do that against a guy with much better technique like RDR?

DDP faced nothing but strikers to make his wrestling look good. Think about it. Bronson has gas tank issues, but if he didn't how would that fight look like?

Both op. The athleticism difference was huge by a wide gap. Khamzat much more explosive and faster. And his technique wrestling vs ddp wrestling was oceans apart. Nothing tonight tells me ddp will ever have a chance to beat him either. I don’t see anyone currently at mw that will give him much of threat. Fluffy is the most interesting but I don’t see him winning. Max Holloway laid out the best game plan prior to the fight tonight on how to game plan against borz. He said to anti wrestle. Mean lots of tdd and doing everything to get back up. He was saying don’t try to wrestle with him or offensively wrestle him. Try to stuff td’s and move and strike. Obviously it’s not that easy, but it sure looked like ddp was trying to wrestle him.
