The broadcast made it sounded like DDP had no idea how to wrestle, and I find that very hard to believe... is Khamzat just THAT good to make a champion look like a newbie?

Or was DDP's wrestling really THAT bad and he just never got exposed before?

I mean, I knew Khamzat was good and that was his strength.. but he just made the UFC champion look like a toddler for 5 rounds.

He got outclassed on the ground
Wouldn't mind a rematch some time in the future

Some of us tried to argue that the only thing that would matter in this fight was Dricus takedown defense and ability to not get subbed or get back up.

He failed spectacularly at his takedown defense and get-ups, but his submission defense was on point.

Wrestling he was dominated. His advantage was the striking but Hamzat was too smart.

Technique.

Complete amateur display, embarrassed him and his camp with that showing.

His combination of strength+gas tank+durability is pretty well unheard of, he just has zero skill at all grappling.

One of the most mentally strong fighters I've ever seen, and his conditioning was great too. Such a shame to see a fighter with those qualities not have the wrestling skills to at least stop a couple takedowns here and there or get back up from some. I hope that was an eye opener for his camp. He only just turned 31 and can make another run to the title, but they need to re-think what they're doing with the defensive wrestling, and drastically. I expected better.

That said, I don't see anyone other than chimaev doing that to him at MW.

Khamzat has very good chain wrestling.

One big issue DDP had is he wasn’t stuffing the head or getting his legs back on his sprawl. Khamzat is just that much better at wrestling.

DDP at one point did do a good job at stuffing one shot but Khamzat followed up with another re attack. His stance seemed to high to compensate for the speed of Khamzat level changes and Khamzat kept driving to angles to stop any first lines of defense.

Everyone knew DDP was sloppy and I was 80% that he would lose, but to think his wrestling would be this bad is just crazy.

He doesn't even seem to have some of the most basic shit down.

He was outmatched everywhere.

DDP was the inferior wrestler, the inferior athlete, and even the inferior striker.

It was crazy watching him get stuck in quicksand when someone took his ability to control range… he was a sitting duck for Khamzats strikes from the outside.

Those lack of fundamentals caught up to him… happens to every unorthodox fighter
