all i hear is negativity. Please give us a list of some living comedians that you feel have a stronger body of work than chappelle…At least IMO. They are simply not that laugh out loud funny for most of the shows. People calling him the GOAT has me exremely confused? Most of these people have to be sheep who really don't follow comedy.
His funniest work for me is the Chapelle show, I enjoyed it just as much as anyone. His movies were never widely succesful. His standup is just ok. Also the so called outrage is overstated as well as the outrage over the outrage.
Taking his total body of work into account, I'm not even sure he is top 5 amongst black comedians alone, let alone all comedians of all races.
Just had to get that thought out.
*PS* Key & Peele DID NOT "steal" his show. People have been doing sketch comedy forever. I don't get where that narrative comes from. In fact those two were on TV doing sketches before Dave.
Just out of curiosity, who are the 5 black comedians you'd rank ahead of him? If I had to make a list without Dave, I guess it'd be:Taking his total body of work into account, I'm not even sure he is top 5 amongst black comedians alone, let alone all comedians of all races.
I could understand where this criticism is coming from based off of his last special, even if I think it's overly harsh and don't completely agree with it. But almost 20 years? Nah, son.He used to be one of the greats, then he let fame go to his head. Now he's just another insulated rich idiot with a microphone who's enamored of his musings, which lack the kind of insight he seems to think they have. I'm not at all offended by anything he says, he just hasn't been funny in almost 20 years.
For purely standup, yes I'd argue those guys over Dave and probably even Kevin Hart and Red Foxx.Just out of curiosity, who are the 5 black comedians you'd rank ahead of him? If I had to make a list without Dave, I guess it'd be:
1. Chris Rock
2. Richard Pryor
3. Eddie Murphy
4. Patrice O'Neal
5. Bernie Mac

Killing them softly was absolutely hilarious. Lately his stand up is more like social commentary than actual comedy though.
agree up to a point. it's obvious Carlin has a way larger area of social commentary, but if you remember the Chappelle show, he did do foreign politics a bit, granted through a "black experience" lens. Carlin used to do society and world in general, while dave does a lot more "what happened in the last year" commentary, and most of the stuff that happened was, as it lately always is in america, about identity and race. i don't think the american public gives a shit about anything related to things happening outside of america anymore, if they ever did. it would be a monologue in silence with most people in the audience not understanding a damn thing he is reffering to, therefore missing all the jokes.
Space jews and the mike pence joke were lol.I think he is a great but perhaps he’s been doing too much as of late. This latest one made me smile but I didn’t laugh out loud once, it’s probably his worst to date. It would have been a great podcast but as a stand up set it was piss poor

You should get out more. And read a book.I consider Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia to be much better at stand up, but that is like me admitting that i like Nickelback (i do)

In terms of Key and Peele, their show (and mencia’s) was formally a ripoff of Chappelle too, with the hosts doing their standup act to lead into the sketches. I don’t know if Chappelle originated that concept, but Comedy Central used it with other acts after he walked. They may have been using it before Chappelle too though, was Pulp Comics in that format back in the 90s?
