Dave Chapelle's Standup Comedy is Ridiculously Overrated

Just out of curiosity, who are the 5 black comedians you'd rank ahead of him? If I had to make a list without Dave, I guess it'd be:

1. Chris Rock
2. Richard Pryor
3. Eddie Murphy
4. Patrice O'Neal
5. Bernie Mac
Loved Chris rock in ‘90s but the most recent stuff I heard from him was kinda sad. It was like he was still trying to be the same but it was just more bitter. At least with chappelle, I feel like he’s evolved and isn’t just going for the same old laughs from his younger days and is using his craft to create stories and social commentary which I personally enjoy

eddie griffin is leaps and bounds above dave chapell in terms of comic ability.
eddie is in the top 5 whereas dave couldnt make the top 20

given his popularity , the most overrated comedian of all time!!!

At least IMO. They are simply not that laugh out loud funny for most of the shows. People calling him the GOAT has me exremely confused? Most of these people have to be sheep who really don't follow comedy.

His funniest work for me is the Chapelle show, I enjoyed it just as much as anyone. His movies were never widely succesful. His standup is just ok. Also the so called outrage is overstated as well as the outrage over the outrage.

Taking his total body of work into account, I'm not even sure he is top 5 amongst black comedians alone, let alone all comedians of all races.

Just had to get that thought out.

*PS* Key & Peele DID NOT "steal" his show. People have been doing sketch comedy forever. I don't get where that narrative comes from. In fact those two were on TV doing sketches before Dave.
comedians when you have to lie to make something funny and make something up.

Dave is excellent, but his recent specials are overly political imo and he repeats the same talking points

He’s similar to Carlin now, where he uses his old funny delivery and storytelling to do social commentary. It’s still funny, especially when you’re still pointing out the actual absurdity of something that most people either don’t notice or are afraid to call out themselves. It’s still funny, because even once you realized Dave didn’t tell that many actual jokes you still think it’s funny. Just like when you realize Carlin was an old man ranting about politics and culture, it was still funny.

I think he is the heir to Carlin. I like it and think we need someone that does it.

Dave is my favorite now. I don't think I like anyone else at all.

I used to love Sarah Silverman but she sold out and started apologizing...fuck that.

I love Gilbert Gottfried but don't think his standup is funny.

His comedy has changed because he's matured but it's still hilarious if you understand it.

aside from killing them softly I haven't really dug his stand up.
I heard from a podcast how his stand up is basically like therapy for him. he vents and tells his stories and gets that feedback from the crowd.
it makes sense to me in that way. his stuff is a one way dialogue from a witty and often funny guy.

not he goat though IMO

plus for me I liked him more before the africa / comedy central/ buff stuff

he used to have a charisma like a out spoken stoner with a quick wit

but after that stuff he lost that playfulness and he is more angry/ aggressive

His older stuff was great. His newer stuff is mostly hit or miss. I feel like the brilliance of The Chappelle Show has inflated everyone's opinion of him as a stand up comic and then somewhere along the way he started being called the GOAT because it's now a trendy word.
