Dan's Strength Training Log ANGER IS A GIFT

Do you think you were overtrainig, or under eating relative to that amount of work?

Seems strange that you can take your foot off the gas and start to put weight on that's not fat. Unless you're still doing enough to force an adaptation.

If only I knew. I had a couple of very hectic weeks where my nutrition and recovery in general took a hit and I think I just fell behind. Or Shieko is winning. Not 100%. To be fair, I have deviated from programming quite a bit in recent months.

Oh some of it's definitely fat my man. I've lost some definition all over. Which I'm fine with. Through three weeks of very hard eating my training volume was still pretty high. As soon as I started backing off it seemed much easier to put on the Lbs(or ounces lololol). I went from 175 most mornings to 79 pretty quickly without any real intake change. Obviously this is mostly glycogen/water, and fat but my goal was just #'s on the scale before the December meet.

Soooo... I'll continue to deload through next week while attempting to keep this BW around 179/80 in the AM.
Assuming I'm good to dive back into regular training after that I'll wait two weeks while maintaining the same nom nom intake and see what that does to the ol' BW and go from there. As long as I'm not north of 177 8-weeks out I don't forsee any issues getting down.

I'm really more concerned with my shoulder putting a big ass dent in my total.

Wonder if your niggles will calm down with the combination of eating more and doing less volume.

Next step is more sleep and Dianabol. Then we'll be seeing a 200lb Legio.

Get excited.

This was somewhere around my biggest. 210 at 5'7". I had been bulking hard into the deployment in full-on, arms three times a week, bro-mode. In my defense I had a ridiculous leg day every week.

I can't ever see getting that big again. It was expensive. And... taxing. In strange ways.

And if less volume is the answer, that would suck. As it does seem effective at developing my strength across the board. Ugh.. programming my own shit.

I was ridicously broke when I was 230. I'm tempted to compete as a 93kg lifter just to avoid having to do that again.

210 @ 5'7" is pretty big imo. And you weren't a sloppy 210 either. Dirty bulking sucks. Makes you feel like shit. Makes you stronger, but not.

SATURDAY

Deload day numero 3

LBBS:
170 1x4
205 2x3
240 2x2
260 5x2

Bench Pulls, Bench Grip:
145 5x8

Lunge:
95 5x10

---Meh. Shoulder still hurts. Haven't benched in 10 days, I think, and the healing process isn't going as quickly as I'd hoped. I couldn't even do a couple of push ups yesterday without babying it/feeling like something was about to pop out of place. I was hoping to start benching lightly through another deload week but now I have no idea if that's wise or not. DAMN IT JIM.

--Squatting was silly. And my hips still hurt.

--Two days off, another week of reduced volume/intensity, and then I guess I'll go from there. Fuckin sucks.

Sorry to hear about the issues man. Keep your chin up, im sure it'll get better with time.
My pecs and my hip was wrecked from sheiko for a while, I feel good now.

Appreciate the positive vibes man.

I'm trying to objectively evaluate where I'm at and what direction I should go in with my training this week. Failing miserably. The shoulder is quite frustrating and I think it's only a matter of time before my left hamstring is in the same condition. It's hard to decide whether I've pushed a bit too hard for too long, or am just being a bitch.

The options I've come up with are:

1- Deload through this coming week, start Sheiko #29 at normal TM except bench at 80%. Then assuming something hasn't blown out, start #32 to prep for the meet.

2- Take a week off from touching a weight. Do some LSD, or something. Then start writing my own programming again. Lolololol.....

3- See how long my knee will last as a competitive indoor track cyclist or BJJ player.

Shoulder issues are gayzors. Get better soon, dan.

I'd go with the LSD. lulz.

I'm hearing good things about DMT so maybe give that a whirl.

Invest some dollars in a tough, Level 2 or 3 McDavid support for your knee if you're gonna roll.

I'd take a week away from lifting.

Hah. I should have said cardio.

Right now my plan is to take this week off entirely. At most I'll do some time on the airdyne here and there. I need to stop in and see Erick at the MMA gym about training his guys so maybe I'll roll for funsies just once. Positional stuff, of course.

Not 100% on how I'll get back into training. I might ease in with some sheiko influenced self-made programming stuff.

I just feel worn out. The deload felt alright but not great. And my two biggest pains haven't improved at all. I'm hoping the down time helps.

In the meantime I'll just spam my log with video of people I coach.

This is the 94kg member of the team. He made a lot of progress consistency wise today.

Two things.

1. I'm disappointed the above video isn't Judi Dench snatching.

2. Since I do eventually plan on bugging you with a buncha vidz, I thought I would ask you. What should I do after I get back to normal ? '

What the fuck did I just listen to ?

I don't... think Ms. Dench would be down...?

And that's a pretty broad question. What, specifically do you mean? Besides lifting, of course.

Reps/sets/progression/what kind of funky hat should I buy/religion to convert to.

The usual.

Well it would be very difficult for me to recommend overly specific programming. When I write programming I do it based mostly around the lifter's technical deficiencies. And even then there are levels of deficiency. Someone that comes WAYYY onto the toe to extend the hip will be doing a lot of toes-unsupported sweeping, and some light pulling and catching. Working on using the sweep mechanic to sit them back on their posterior. Meanwhile someone that simply hangs out on the toe too long as opposed to being too high or extended might be told to sweeps from the floor with a catch on the mid-hang to force them to focus on finishing the sweep with an open chest pushing down through the shins/heels. If that makes any sense.

My very broad advice would be to figure out where you can sharpen up your technique and spend a lot of time doing things to fix that, getting lots of reps in at 70-80%.

If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to take a crack at them. On the upside you have a good little bit of downtime to really put some thought into your training though.

When you're healthy come down and lift for a few days. I'm sure we can house you somewhere free of charge. If you're up and around Nov. 2 come down then. Kyle will be here doing a seminar.
