Media Daniel Cormier defends the UFC regarding Francis Ngannou

Nah they definitely not happy about it. Especially as he succeeds and makes massive money even as the B side doing it. All it's doing is shining a light for every other fighter to see the money that can lay elsewhere that they'll just never get in the UFC. No matter how successful. It's why they're counter programming him with such a heavily booked card like 299. The francis fight got announced and they started just loading it with great fights even though they have ufc 300 right behind it they're trying to hype as a card of the decade.

Promotions promote. The long-term goal is to build a profit machine.

Right or wrong, good or bad, advertising huge purses is an effective promotional tool in today's market.
An Ngannou fight that pays each fighter a percentage of the ppv buys will not attract as much attention or buys as a fight that guarantees a 6 million dollar purse.

The thing that gets overlooked is this: advertising a 6 million dollar purse and paying it are two different things.
It is possible (even probable) that the 6 million was a promotional gimmick and nobody paid 6 million to anyone.
The fanboi response to this assertion is, "Saudi's don't mind losing millions of dollars."

Riiight.

That ppv was in the middle of the night. The production and venue and staff costs were material.
It seems very unlikely that it sold anywhere near enough views to cover promo and production costs, much less multi-million dollar purses.

Saudi prince is willing to lose millions to see all these dream fights. That's great only if you have unlimited money.

Francis will probably make more in two fights than the entire UFC HW division combined. He’s won.

You mean the professional boxer that is 0-1 and likely to be 0-2 soon?

The 37 year old ex-mma fighter simply isn't a PPV draw.
