I guess it's kinda like how a promoter getting shitloads of money for putting on circus fights kills their drive and motivation to book fights as if this was a sport based on fighter's merits.

More money might cause fighters to retire younger and take less short notice fights or fights if banged up.

It would also improve the level of athletes interested in doing the sport and create hunger for those climbing the ranks to get there.

There's some hints of truth in it for those who aren't motivated alone by being the best, but it's mostly just justification for poor fighter pay.

Money, the belt and fame can change fighters making them more soft and entitled.

Seems more like an issue for some individual fighters. Muhamad Ali is the GOAT of HW boxing and was both the richest and most famous athlete of his time.

Definitely happened to McGregor. Sometimes the strive for recognition and money fuels the fighter on the way up, and once they achieve that they lose the hunger. It's a different mentality than someone like GSP had that would persist after being champ.

He is paying his fighters absolute peanuts so that they are hungry to evolve as mixed martial artists.
He is doing it for them.
