BINGO!!!!!

If we got PPV as part of Fightpass or something(ESPN+) for $10 to $20 a month illegal streaming would drop drastically in the US.
No it wouldn't. People in here will use any excuse to steal, the cards suck, it's convenient with my computer, I like the stream chat. Lol

I used to split PPVs with buddies when they were 40-50 bucks. I think the last one we split was at the end of 2011 where Mir took big Nog's arm to Snap City.

ESPN+ $11.99/month
PPV $79.99/event

After taxes that's damn near $1200 a year. Most people don't have it like that to drop over a grand for some fights. I love the sport and follow it as much as I can.....but if the streams and rivers dry up I'll just stop watching and look up the results the next day like I did during the dark ages of MMA. If you're the UFC you should factor in streamers when negotiating with the advertisers. More eyes on your product means more exposure whether it's from people buying the event or watching from some other corner of the internet.

The price for the product hasn't been fair for a long time.
What is fair?

Piracy has already been solved. Apple deserves the credit.

They made it so you could buy one song for 99 cents, and suddenly it was just easier to pay for music rather than steal it.

Then the streaming model worked for movies and TV. Pay 7 bucks a month and have thousands of things to watch.

Basically the answer is to price your product at what people are willing to pay. And it better be cheap enough that people would rather just pay it than seek out pirated copies.

The longer the UFC refuses to change, the more piracy problems they'll have.

What is fair?

Anything more than $45 is too much. That's in total, including the monthly ESPN+ fee. Cards aren't stacked, the commentary has been at an all time low, the legitimacy of champions is constantly in question, and I really hate to say it, but WMMA fights often kill the momentum of the events where they're featured.

I remember that; Dana said something after the fight like "this guy who we were watching, he didn't stream".
He 'apparently' stopped one guy, has Dana ever actually admitted a loss? The only time I can remember was when he hit his wife.

b

Maybe not.. I’d pay $45 though and sub to fight pass if I had to. Every link I find always kicks off when it gets good I see.
To clarify, I would sub (again) to fight pass, too. Unfortunately it doesn't even allow you the "privilege" of buying a PPV in the US. In fact it's pretty worthless lol

Two streaming services for the same brand that compete against each other.... Brilliant

What is fair?
$20 for an actually decent fight pass + $20 for PPV. Say it's $40 or $45 or whatever to buy it without fight pass

That way it'd still give even loyal fans a choice to skip some PPVs they don't find worthy (assuming they don't get better). The UFC can also keep bragging about selling PPVs if they want to

Honestly even a $20-25 subscription all round sounds more than fair considering what a subscription costs for other streaming services. UFC has a "premium" product.... I guess?

Here, since you think we're the ones being ridiculous, I went and found this for you (see attachment)

A UFC PPV ($80) + ESPN+ ($11) + Fight Pass ($10) in the US costs more than all these streaming services put together

$101 vs
$82 + $23 for Netflix (highest source I can find for the best plan besides this one graphic) = $105

But wait, there's more... There were 14 PPVs in 2023. So it isn't even "just" $100 a month.

You can be proud of getting taken for a ride, I guess?

Controversial (or not) opinion:
The UFC does not have a piracy problem. They are a business with a 50% margin and over 1B$ revenue, which increase every year, all of that while illegal streaming is and has always been widespread.

Illegal streaming is not an issue and it is probably not even profitable to try end it.

You can justify anything with that line of thinking.

What's a few people jumping out the window so we can have affordable tech?

Just trying to run a multi billion dollar business.

Gotta crack a few eggs ... right?

fighters getting CTE and winding up broke and ruined by age 40...

Just trying to run a multi billion dollar business.

This is an opportunity, not a career.

Kill 6 million jews...

Just following orders.

Gotta look out for the stockholders bro!!
There is a term of it. It is called argumentum ad absurdum.
We aren't talking about holocaust. We are talking about pricing saturday's evening entertainment. So let's stick to it.

Dana, give it up. You will not be able to combat privacy, and you are lying through your teeth when you say you are at the forefront of prosecuting illegal streamers. What's next, you gonna say you don't slap your wife?

How about this: tell your ESPN business partners not to charge so damn much for a PPV and maybe more people will buy it. I don't buy PPV's because I don't want to put money in Dana's pocket, he doesn't deserve one penny of my hard earned money. And as much as I would like to say that if I don't buy the PPV's then the fighters will lose money, the UFC isn't going to give it to them anyway so WTF?

they should ditch the ESPN format, they no longer need mainstream acceptance or the TV model. it's all about the views/clicks. they should just make all events on their own subscription service, and make is 20 bucks a month.

Pay per view prices amounts to stealing from people.

That product is not worth 50-70 USD.

Often there's only 2-3 fights with name fighters on there.. and it's just watching it on TV. For that price you could see a popular music artist live..
At this point even free streams are not worth watching, if you have something better to do.

Alternate orgs (ONE, PeeFellator, Rizin, ArmFC, KSW) have never been better and the UFC's output has never been less desirable. I've been absolutely loving watching these events and shitposting on the PBP threads here on Sherdog. And I'm excited to say I just discovered ACA exists, which should be full of talented fighters.
